Iron Maiden – Afraid To Shoot Strangers Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think its about a soldier preparing to go into gulf war 1 and is terrified he prays then has doubts "Should we live and let live Forget or forgive" then he realises that the atrocities are too great But how can we let them go on this way? The reign of terror corruption must end the reign of terror is Saddam Hussain's rule over Kurdistan he gassed millions of people. The soldier then resolves to fight but is still scared all the same |

No its a bit clever than that it doesn't push any sort of agenda it just states the facts to let you draw the conclusion as opposed to a typical anti war song that will just hand you the conclusion It's way more powerful this way the trooper is the same way (though this is better) |
Iron Maiden – Paschendale Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I was thinking the exact same thing its just the facts and horrors no agenda |
Iron Maiden – Mother of Mercy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think its a guy fighting in an ideological war (maybe a crusade) but he joined for money hear me out "Will god tell me what religion is to man I don't hold with bad religion understand what's underneath it Now I come to think of it, I just don't hold at all you know it You say you are a holy man, but what is it you do From where I stand is nothing but a hollow man I see" He followed the religious leaders into the war but isnt that much of a believer, well like a typical person believes in some sort god but isnt a fanatical supporter of the religion and so can see that the religion and its 'holy man' lacks substance "I'm just a lonely soldier fighting in a bloody hopeless war Don't know what I'm fighting, who it is, or what I'm fighting for Thought it was for money, make my fortune, now I'm not so sure Seem to just have lost my way " He originally went for money and probably heard it was a righteous cause anyway. Now he has realised the horror he's helped unleash and regrets it big time. It throws you a bit because it isnt about any given side or conflict it could apply to any ideological war, you always get guys fighting that dont really believe in the cause just after fortune. |

Yeah the main character is am invesment banker/ scammer/whatever offering an impossibly good investment and eventually it leads to a crash. definitely a metaphor for the financial crash. "So gone is the glory And gone is the gold Well if you need a story I'll come, it has to be told Well you can say I'm a devil And I wouldn't say no But out here on the dark side Hey! On with the show" This bit especially the last two lines is about how the greedy fat cats basicly got away with it. |
Iron Maiden – Hallowed Be Thy Name Lyrics | 13 years ago |
No he did do it and still believes it was right perhaps a revolutionary or maybe he committed the crime for some greater good "And though the end is near I'm not sorry" |
Iron Maiden – These Colours Don't Run Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Iron Maiden – The Talisman Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think its about fleeing oppression and heading out to new lands perhaps those fleeing Europe for america. Maybee the pilgrims. In the old days crossing the Atlantic was immensely dangerous. Does anyone know of a voyage that lost four ships that seems oddly specific |
