James Vincent McMorrow – We Don't Eat Lyrics | 11 years ago |
i think its about loosing faith or loosing your religion. the impermanence of all things and leaving something behind to begin anew. its bittersweet. |
The Cinematic Orchestra – To Build A Home Lyrics | 11 years ago |
yes! i agree! well said! |
The Cinematic Orchestra – To Build A Home Lyrics | 11 years ago |
yes i agree very strongly with that! beautifully said! |
The Cinematic Orchestra – To Build A Home Lyrics | 11 years ago |
i think this song is about someone who has started to loose their faith in their religion, whatever it may be. I think he is speaking to whoever it is he worships, maybe he is praying. THe house, being his solid religious foundation, is becoming dusty and old yet it still feels safe. the tree represents his life and the strength of his faith. but there are some cracks in it. and when he climbs to the top to see the world, or in other words, branch out, learn things, he starts to loose that faith. he holds on tightly to his faith because he has built his life around it. but it starts to disappear. and he begins to feel like when he dies, he will only turn to dust because he has lost his faith in the afterlife. it also makes me think of a Mandala, being slowly and carefully constructed and then just blown away.. impermanence. he sounds almost devastated by his new view of life yet he cannot help but feel that way. like he has just stumbled upon some shocking truth. he has been uprooted, paradigm shift. this song is beautiful |

Bon Iver – Skinny Love Lyrics | 12 years ago |
i dont really have an interpretation of these lyrics. but i think ive figured out some of the lines.... "staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer"---- first though was someone punching their fist through something wooden with veneer finish, a wall, or dresser... "and now im breaking at the britches and at the end of all your lines"------ britches cut of at the knee, i figure he is saying he is falling to his knees, especially when she says goodbye... maybe he is the reason the relationship or watever is broken. it seems like in the chorus he is upset at himself like he regrets telling her these things. he pushed her away and he knows it. its sad and beautiful. |
Chevelle – Shameful Metaphors Lyrics | 12 years ago |
*allegory of THE cave... sorry |
Chevelle – Shameful Metaphors Lyrics | 12 years ago |
i love the way he says "sound" every time. he just says it so passionately and powerfully, like he is crying out for someone to hear. the whole chorus is amazingly powerfully. some of the content for some reason reminded me of Plato's Allegory of a Cave... good song great band |

Carina Round – For Everything A Reason Lyrics | 12 years ago |
before this song was in american horror story, (great show btw)- it was in joss whedon's dollhouse... its a beautiful song.. i also thought of the death of a very small child. she talks about feeling indignant- maybe she had a miscarriage or a stillbirth...? also when she says, "dont tell me that i had everything i needed, for every lie honey the truth lies underneath it" --to me it sounds like a husband is trying to comfort her but they both know there is no justification for losing her child. "my house is haunted by rotten desires"- maybe she already has children and she knows she should be grateful, but still desires the one she lost. the whole thing to me sounds like she keeps hearing everyone's voices in her head telling her "for everything a reason" but she just cant see it that way. "i saw you leaving, i saw you lying cold." --how could there be a good reason for her baby to die? maybe, maybe not... either way, the lyrics paint a beautiful picture.. tells quite a story, i think. |
Civil Twilight – Letters From The Sky Lyrics | 12 years ago |
everyone keeps relating to meaning to either war, religion, or love. maybe it is all three.. love can very often be like war and so on. |

Jack Johnson – The News Lyrics | 13 years ago |
one of my cousins is a newscaster and when she heard this song she started sobbing. i asked her why it got to her so much and i asked her if she was offended. she said that she wasnt offended, she was sad. she said that whenever she reports sad news, afterword she usually goes in the bathroom and cries. she said that newscasters jobs are hard because you have to wear a happy face and be brave and just do your job, cuz thats what people want to see, smiles. but at the end of the day, when you take off the mask, you know how full off shit everyone is, and you know how fucked up the world is. i thought that was very sad |

Jason Mraz – Halfway Home Lyrics | 13 years ago |
either that, or its from the perspective of someone who is sick and dying. like cancer or aids etc. used to walk on the wrong side of the street, meaning they had to fear or worries... "I used to think that i could just sleep and then I'd dream And everything it would come to me Until I woke one day without anything to eat Lying on the opposite side of the street" but now they've been suddenly diagnosed with a fatal sickness. home= heaven they are done fighting, they are ready to die, they are halfway there. "Ain't it funny how everybody seems to care" (cancer is so common in this world now that we barley even blick when it swallows up people) supper time in heaven, bread and wine, or again, a last supper kinda thing... just waiting for a sign from god telling them its time to go. |
Jason Mraz – Halfway Home Lyrics | 13 years ago |
to me, this song is about death..... most likely suicide... he thought he could wait for time to take him(waiting to die) but he's gotta meet halfway, take care of it himself. leaving after supper time, traffic is light... (referring to the traffic of souls going to heaven or elsewhere) he just needs a sign, that final push to help him make the decision. he used to sleep and dream of better but it never came, and he's realized its not going to. its not his time to stay, and its not his time to say, "i'll never lay down" (he's not going to show bravery) he's halfway home (home being a state of mind, or possibly he thinks he is going to heaven. he's tried going with the flow and just drifting through life. everybody seems to care so much (sarcasm.) of course they care NOW. after he's gone, but no one noticed his pain before. suppertime... in heaven.. they serve bread and wine. (could also be referring to his last meal or family gathering before he departs.) and lastly he reassures himself that after words he will be ok. that everything will be ok. |
