Bastille – Things We Lost in the Fire Lyrics 10 years ago
"We sat and made a list of all the things that we have. Down the backs of table tops, ticket stubs and your diaries. I read them all one day when loneliness came and you were away. Oh they told me nothing new, but I love to read the words you used."

I find this verse to be romantic and so full of love. He reads her diaries not to find out her secrets for she had already shared all her secrets with him. He read them because she was gone, he was lonely, missing her and longing for her company and only to find solace in diary entries of her stories that he has already heard.

Bastille – Pompeii Lyrics 10 years ago
This was beautiful entry. I feel he must have been heavily inspired by this experience because the entire album has the same undertones and I personally believe the album is a concept album... it is definitely not a coincidence how Pompeii leads right into Things We Lost In The Fire. I have been itching to hear how they came up with all the songs on the album and how they decided they were a great fit for the album itself... I find it to be absolutely flawless. Thank you for sharing.

This song is absolutely charming. Trdollar hit on on the head... what an incredible way to tell a piece of history, eh?

Freelance Whales – Ghosting Lyrics 13 years ago
From what I interpret from the song, it's about someones childhood and not particularly a happy one. I sense a bit of resentment towards the speakers mother. I feel that the mother must not have payed a lot of attention to her children. Sure she would scold them when she took the time to notice them doing something bad, like playing in the power sockets, but she never got down on her knees to play with her children allowing to get some "soot" on her face or put her children to bed.

Instead, the speaker wonders if she was fantasizing about jumping over the back fence if she runs with "him" in the morning, "him" being someone other then the speakers biological father. I assume the running would be away from her current life and family.

The last two verses:

"The reasons my molars are so broken
Is I spend too much time ghosting
With the likes of you and yours

The reasons my insides are swollen
Is I spend too much time ghosting
With the likes of you and yours"

I feel that they can be interpreted in two different ways. Ghosting is a smoking term in which you take a hit and hold it into your lungs for so long that when you finally exhale nothing comes out, you ghosted it. This, to me, makes sense in the aspects of how he is saying his molars are broken and his insides are swollen. On the other hand, the term ghost could be a representation of the neglect he feels from his mother.
