Ummmm.... these lyrics here so totally don't have the Kanye West part in it where he sings about and specifically mentions the phrase alien sex. He also says that "I will unrobe then probe you." I absolutely love this song. It is so sweet and romantic. Every time I hear it, it reminds me of a young couple that love each other so much and just want to spend as much time as possible with each other. I also think about girls that I love and it makes me want to start a relationship with some of them. However, maybe I'm the only person in the world to catch on to this, but I always seem to notice one aspect that I refuse to believe. They only have one night together. They are planning on doing something together all night. His heart beats like a drum and they dance in slow motion. After looking back on that night, he says that he will always remember that she makes love so fine. I'll let you fill in the blanks on that one. One thing I might add to what people have said is that it's apparent that the girl is self conscious about how she looks. The guy is trying to convince her that she is fine the way she is. I know this is the case with a lot of girls out there that I have talked with. Always wondering and thinking that they are too fat, too tall, not pretty enough, hair not done well enough, not enough make-up, etc. Many times us guys try to tell them that they do look pretty they way they are, but the self conscious feeling still yells louder than the guys' words and she ends up not fully believing him. That's one reason why this song is beautiful because its a story of what happens all the time. Adding to everyone else, I absolutely love this song. When I get into a relationship, this song will be my theme song. Its the sweetest romance song that I've heard. |

Do keep in mind that I was attempting to spark conversation about the meaning of this song because I don't think its quite as obvious as people think and so I was providing multiple different interpretations for people to think about. I don't really think this song is that religious, but I can see how people could interpret it that way, so I brought it up. I also don't think it's a song supporting homosexuality, but I can see how people could interpret it that way. Overall, summarizing my jumbled thoughts, the song itself seems to have a theme of self-confidence in who you are while the music video comes across as interpreting it as a song about freedom of expression and doing whatever the heck you want without fear of consequences or being made fun of, so I am torn between those two interpretations. Similar ideas, but very different at the same time. No, I don't like Katy Perry and I think I explained myself as to why I don't. The majority of her songs that I've heard are quite perverted. |

Ok, so there have been almost 30 comments about this song so far, yet hardly anyone has made an attempt to interpret it. And I'm not so sure its quite as obvious and inspirational as people think. Now quite honestly, I haven't made up my mind as to what I think it's about, so I'm going to present a few different viewpoints for you to think on. First, the obvious interpretation that one could take almost has a religious viewpoint. No one should feel useless. We are all children of God and he cares about every one of us and we each are unique and have a specific mission on this earth. So if we are feeling down, just light the spark in us and realize who we are and what we can do. Take that interpretation and the song really is inspirational. However, many times you can watch the official music video and that will tell you what was in the artist's mind when he or she wrote the song and quite honestly I don't see how so many people are in love with this music video. I can see how people love this song, but the music video is really weird and wrong and displays the typical Katy Perry personality that is displayed in her videos. I get the vibe from the video that the song is about how one should be careless and worry free with their life and do whatever the heck they want without having to worry about any consequences. If one really wanted to play devil's advocate for this song, that person could argue that the song is singing about pro-gay rights and not feeling shy to show to the world that you are gay. Now I'm really convinced that its talking about that last argument, but if you think of that idea while you read the words, it fits the bill and the music video does show two guys kissing, which is honestly gross. But why do I get the vibe that the video displays the meaning as being carefree with your life with you not having to work on being better or changing yourself? Well, look at the storyline of the girl. She's at a party where all the other girls are skinny and beautiful and all in their underwear and bikinis and the girl is not feeling comfortable to get undressed. Either she's self conscious about her looks, thinking she's too fat to get naked, or she doesn't think that it is right. Well, towards the end of the video, she gives in to the the enticings of the other girls and strips down into her underwear and jumps into the pool. To me that displays the attitude of being careless with what you do rather than getting a sense of self worth. Same thing thing with the guy who decides to go up and make out with another guy in a middle of a party. Note that the kiss happens right when Katy Perry sings the line "come on let your colors burst." Now the rest of the video is really quite creepy with fireworks exploding out of everyone. Ok, let me have. You all think I'm an idiot who's just a Katy Perry hater. I'll take that. I don't like Katy Perry. She has a good voice, but yet the sound of her singing voice kinda bothers me. Yes, I think she's a crazy skank. No, I'm not ever convinced that she ever sings about anything that is uplifting and promoting high moral values, because I don't think she has any. She sings about lesbians in the song "I kissed a girl and I liked it." She sings about all girls in California being sluts in "California girls" while being completely naked for half the song up in the clouds. Then she sings about sex in "teenage dream" and is in bed with a guy for most of that song, so forgive me if I haven't been all that impressed with Katy Perry. However, with all that said, I will give kudos to Katy Perry for making this song slightly less disturbing than her other songs. |

"Here we go, just lose control and let your body give in to the beat of your heart as my hand touches your skin." Then there's the obvious lines of "Is this love or just sexual desire", "wake up, wake up dreaming and lie here with me", and "taking chances in the back of your car". He admits to misbehaving and says he's trying to keep his hands off, but she is begging him for more. "Shout it out, scream it loud. Let me hear you go." "I won't stop baby until until you get enough." Those are the facts of the song. Now what are they actually doing? The song doesn't say specifically. Are they sleeping with each other or are they simply dancing and partying? The music video leans on the latter but suggests both while I personally think the former. |

| At a first glance, it seems as if it is a simple song saying that she is fed up with the recent men she's been with and wants to move on. That very well could be what the song is about; however, the music video makes me think it means something much deeper and has a hidden message. All the male dancers do look very gay in the song and Gaga certainly isn't wanting to get away from them. If she was trying to get away the she wouldn't be stripping in front of them and letting them handle her like she does. Then there are tons of random religious objects and themes in the video which have nothing to do with getting away from the guys. If Alejandro, Fernando, and Roberto do represent the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost then the music video and lyrics connect very well. It would mean that she is throwing her previous religious life away, wanting nothing to do with God, and moving forward by being as rebellious and worldly as she can. You don't have to be a teenager to live the teenage dream. She's with a guy that she loves (or lusts after) and they decide to go all the way. Due to this chain of events she feels like she is a teenager again. No, I am not a teenager anymore, but was one and I know how teenagers think. Do we need to go back to health class? Your teenager years is when you gain your sex drive and many teenagers fail to keep those newly gained passions in check. High school girls getting pregnant these days is not out of the norm, which is sad. Even teenagers who keep their passions in check have feelings for the opposite gender and sex crosses their minds. Thus is why the teenage dream is to have sex. Whether or not you do is another story, but the word "dream" is the key here. Now after our health lesson, back to the song. Katy Perry (yes Katy Perry isn't a teenager anymore, thanks for stating the obvious) gets with a guy and "lives the teenage dream". She goes all the way. However you want to say it, it all means the same thing. Now in the last half of the song, after describing her experience, she states 4 times to "be your teenage dream tonight". One of those 4 times being the last line of the song. Going to English class, now, that statement is a command and "be" is a verb. She's telling someone to go do something. She encouraging. She's promoting. What is she promoting? The teenage dream? What is that? Sex. Now this is terrible. People, teenagers especially, should wait for marriage before doing that. Not something anyone should promote in a song. The only way to justify this song is if Katy Perry is singing to married couples. Is Katy Perry doing that? I highly doubt it. Come on, people. Think. Pay attention to the details. |
