Death Cab for Cutie – We Looked Like Giants Lyrics | 12 years ago |
In my interpretation of the song, the meaning revolves around the line "I've become what I've always hated"–which means that he's turned into another person who is taking sex as entertainment, as a means of putting himself higher on the social totem pole–where a relationship is reduced to an aspect of being a functional member of society. After, he regrets what he's done and hopes to hide it, but he soon realizes he's been found out. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Brendan's Death Song Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Lyrics straight from the booklet [with some omitted parts added]: If I die before I get it done Will you decide To take my words and turn them into signs That will survive? Because a long time ago I knew not to deprive It's safe out there, and now you're everywhere Just like the skies You are love, you are the love supreme You are the rise And when you hear this You'll know it's your jam It's your goodbye [Chorus] Like I said You know I'm almost dead You know I'm almost gone And when the drummer drums He's going to play my song To carry me along Like I said You know I'm almost dead You know I'm almost gone And when the boatman comes To ferry me away To where we all belong We all crossed when we were feeling lost It's just the tide Katari cried the day her lover died She recognized Because he gave her A life of real love It's no surprise The nights are long But the years are short When you're alive Way back when Would never be again It was a time It's gonna catch you So glad I met you To walk the line [Chorus] (Come and get me...) (Hey!) (Hey!) (Yeah!) (Yeah!) (Yeah!) [Chorus] Let me live So when it's time to die Even the reaper cries Let me die So when it's time to live Another son will rise I said, yeah Yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah I said, yeah Yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah (I said, yeah) [Chorus x1] (Yeah, yeah) (Yeah, yeah) [x4] Like I said You know I'm almost dead You know I'm almost gone [x3] |
Slightly Stoopid – Questionable Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Wow. All that time and this is the first comment? What the hell? Fucking awesome song. I think this song is basically about some dude who got himself into a lot of shit and now he's got the cops looking for him, and the other dude in the song is his friend or roommate or whatever and has no clue what the hell happened. So... yeah. Awesome. |
The Postal Service – Natural Anthem Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I swear I can hear that same noise from the beginning very faintly in the beginning of "president of what?" by Death Cab For Cutie. Come to think about it, the lyrics from the songs may be connected as well. |
Billy Talent – Where Is The Line? Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song reminds me of M&M from Watoosh! (at least lyrically) |
Neon Trees – Animal Lyrics | 12 years ago |
To me, the song is simply about a guy whose relationship with his ex didn't work out, but he wants to try again. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Army Corps of Architects Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think people are reading into the lyrics too much. The first time I heard this song, I interpreted it to be about a person's thoughts when they and their neighbors are moved out of their home in a valley to make room to create a reservoir. |
Rise Against – Anywhere But Here Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I actually think this song is about trying to return someone, not trying to run away from them. The lyrics are "Destination: Anywhere but here, away from you." 'Here' is away from the person he's singing about. The first verse is narrated while he's leaving, while the chorus, second verse, and bridge are narrated when he tries to return. When the song says "I'll forget everything I left behind," it's saying the narrator will forget the events that lead to him leaving and then lead to his return. My favorite part is this: "We finally know now what our time here's about We were not meant to be another face in the crowd We're a forest of lives And we've grown tall and wide We'll never be cut down" |
AFI – This Celluloid Dream Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is just a theory, but I think maybe the titles for Girl's Not Grey and This Celluloid Dream were switched. If you read the lyrics, it kind of makes sense... Any ideas? |

I know this is 6 years too late, but after "To the bar", someone says "Outtake!" |
Pearl Jam – Wishlist Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I love the line "I wish I was a messenger, and all the news was good." |
Pearl Jam – Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song sort of describes what kind of a place I live in. I live in a small town where pretty much everyone knows each other, and one of the places where people like to go often is a small store (the only store in town) where they can sit at the tables and drink they're coffee in the morning, get some lunch, and all that. Years from now, there will be different people sitting at these tables, a different person behind the counter, or it may not even be there at all. The town tries to stay small, and I hope it does stay that way, because without the places from your memories, it's hard to recall them. This is what this song means to me- Everything changes around you, and you're stuck inside memories of how things used to be. After awhile it all starts to fall apart, things go in and out of style, small towns become cities, friends exit your life in one way or another, and you're stuck where you were. |
Cake – Friend Is A Four Letter Word Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think the word is 'Over'. |
Cake – Dime Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I always looked at this song as being about not being a first choice, for example, if someone can't get their first choice for a lover, they look to you. The narrator is convincing the person that they're worth a first choice. |
Cake – Teenage Pregnancy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I listened again. Sounds like this: "I can't (something). Speak to me. Speak to me." |
Cake – Bound Away Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm really pleased with the new album, especially this song, Teenage Pregnancy, and Mustache Man (Wasted). The line "I'm trying to come home, but I'm here with the band" makes the song seem so obvious that there just HAS to be another meaning. |
Cake – Mustache Man (Wasted) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think maybe this is a sort of continuation of The Distance... in The Distance, he abandoned his girlfriend to try to get to the top... Now he's abandoned his friends, leaving them to have fun without him. |
Cake – Teenage Pregnancy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
To me, the mix of sounds in the song represents the confusion and distress that teenage pregnancy brings. Also, although it may just be a bit of the music, does anyone else hear someone whisper 'I can't' around the 1:51 mark? Or maybe it was 'Okay'. |
Guns N' Roses – Ain't It Fun Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Well, judging by the fact that Kurt Cobain was only 11 when this song was originally released... No. |
Rage Against the Machine – Sleep Now In The Fire Lyrics | 13 years ago |
That's weird. I always thought it was "The crux of my desire". Huh. Oh well. This obviously seems to be about greed, judging by references to the Hiroshima bombing and the taking of Native American lands. This is my favorite song off of The Battle of Los Angeles. It's great. |
Rise Against – Hero of War Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. |

Didn't have time to read the comments, so this has probably been posted before From what I heard, it's about Adam's painkiller addiction. |
Death Cab for Cutie – What Sarah Said Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It basically means (to me, anyway) that there's going to be one person that sticks with you for your whole life... even if they die first. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Soul Meets Body Lyrics | 13 years ago |
If you're gonna bash them about it, might as well be helpful and point out the mistakes... |

Ozzy Osbourne – Let Me Hear You Scream Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I agree, this is basically about standing up for what you believe in, and to get you going. So... LET ME HEAR YOU SCREAM! |
Rise Against – The Dirt Whispered Lyrics | 13 years ago |
“We took the same approach to this record as we’ve done to our previous records, which is actually a lack of approach,” McIlrath says. “There’s no approach. It’s just show up and let’s play. There’s no plan, we don’t map it out, we don’t decide on a direction. We just kind of let it happen real naturally. That’s how it happened.” Sell outs CHOOSE to sell out. Rise Against just ENDED UP sounding different. And they released a song called "Sometimes Selling Out Is Giving Up" for crying out loud. |
Rise Against – Sometimes Selling Out Is Giving Up Lyrics | 13 years ago |
For the people saying they sold out with Appeal to Reason, has it ever occurred to you that they're trying to get their message to a wider audience? |
Rise Against – Ready To Fall Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this song has the same meaning as the video. Hold on, slow down, again from the top, now, and tell me everything - Not believing what he's hearing I know I've been gone for what seems like forever, but I'm here now, waiting - Humanity finally seeing what they're doing, maybe? To convince you that I'm not a ghost or a stranger, but closer than you think - I think this line is basically saying we're animals, too She said just go on, do what you pretend is your life - Humanity destroying the world But please don't die on me! - We're all in this world together, so might as well help each other Wings won't take me! Heights don't phase me! So take a step! But don't look down, take a step! - Taking action? Now I'm standing on the rooftop, ready to fall! I think I'm at the edge now, but I could be wrong! Now I'm standing on the rooftop, ready to fall! - I think this line is about how animals were quite fine until humans came, and they were sort of knocked aside Perpetual motion - Treating animals as slaves The image won't focus, a blur is all that's seen - Trying to get proof of animals being treated badly But here in this moment, like the eye of the storm, it all came clear to me - Finally realizing the damage we've done I found a shoulder to lean on, an infallible reason to live all by itself - Animals needing help and animals trying to get away from humans I took one last look from the heights that I once loved, and then I ran like hell! - Humanity arrives chorus I count the times that I've been sorry - Feeling sorry for animals that have been killed, abused, etc. (I know, I know) - Knowing what's actually going on While my compassion slowly drowns - Others trying to convince him that it's alright If there's a time these walls could guard you, then let that time be right now - Maybe defending animals? Repeated lines |
Rise Against – Kotov Syndrome Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The ending is: "Spin out of control Spin out of control Spin out of control Spin out of control Try to recover, we have to recover We're fading fast, one after the other Spin out of control" Not: "Spin out of control Spin out of control Try to recover, but collide with each other We spin out of control" |

And tweeting it, and putting it as their MySpace status, and suggesting it to the radio, and talking about it, and singing/rapping it... |

Justin Bieber – Baby Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'd say well said, but punctuation? |
Rise Against – The Dirt Whispered Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I initially thought that this song was about the environment: "The concrete, calls my name again I'm falling, through the cracks I slip" I was thinking of the concrete representing the modern world, and he was sort of falling into it. But now it seems more to me like him missing his family on tour: "The postcard says wish you were here, But I'd rather I was there, holding Onto the simple things before they disappear" This is a great song! And by the way, why are the lyrics in "txt speek"? |
