When someone says their salvation comes from the love of their brothers and sisters, they are NOT talking about god or any other silly superstitions |

Ween – Birthday Boy Lyrics

I read in an interview with Deaner somewhere that this is his own personal favorite Ween song. I thought that was awesome cause this song always blows my mind! I consider it their most poetic song. I would love to hear it covered by Tom Petty or Fiona Apple. Is that weird? |

The Beta Band – Push It Out Lyrics

I think this is more than just a song about pooping. It's more like a grand existential meditation on the joy and art of pooping. |

VAST – My TV And You Lyrics

Jon must have been going through some dark times when he wrote this. I have a lot of respect for how he can be so honest about sharing his unflattering state of mind. Also, what are "ceiling walls" and why are there stars on them?? |

One Day As A Lion – Wild International Lyrics

Bias? Zach himself asks "Why would we ever let a few white christian's fictions shape our tomorrow?"
You are spouting this crap because you want to feel like a good christian and still listen to badass music. Get over your superstitions and join the modern world. |

OK Go – This Too Shall Pass Lyrics

I think this song sounds uplifting even if you don't understand a word they say! The video is so good that it serves as a distraction from how good the song is. |

This is my new favorite Lisa Hannigan song!
"my ball won't pin" must be either some dirty Irish slang or perhaps a bowling reference... |

I think if Dylan heard THIS SONG he would maybe feel a little bit like a clown who entertains. it reminds me of Dylan's early "talking blues" songs but none of them are anywhere near this good!

Iron & Wine – Teeth in the Grass Lyrics
|
The teeth have nothing to do with tombstones or teeth slowly rotting in the ground. This is a poem about a utopian future. I take it to be an optimistic one. Rather than describing communism, all that brotherhood and shared property stuff is describing a state of anarchy. I'm talking about the kind of anarchy that will happen if mankind ever evolves to higher state of intellect and personal responsibility. Seems unlikely! The "teeth in the grass" is all about vegetarianism. Maybe it's more accurate to say the image is a metaphorical description of gentle creatures living simply off the land. |

I wish I could digitally remove john's voice from every track he sings on. His lyrics and vocal phrasing make me cringe. But he's a goddam wizard with the guitar!! |

Iron & Wine – Walking Far from Home Lyrics

I feel pretty certain that this song (and pretty much all his other songs too) should be enjoyed rather than interpreted. It has the feel of a stream of consciousness from Sam's memory. What separates this dude from most people is he sees the mundane events of daily life in terms of poetic imagery. If you try to figure out what experiences from his life he is describing you deprive yourself of the opportunity to let his words find their own way to relate to YOUR life. Sam's music is sticky, in the way that it sticks to my soul |

VAST – Free Lyrics

This is such a badass song! I put it right up there with "I won't back down" by Tom Petty. People coming out of a variety of miserable situations can relate to this song: divorce, leaving an oppressive job, getting out of prison, leaving the military...
I wonder, though, if Jon was inspired to write this one from his struggles with the record company? The exact reason doesn't even matter! If you can relate to this song or if you just love freedom it's a badass song!! |
