Swans – Greed Lyrics

I think the title, like with Blackmail, casts a more sinister light on the lyrics. The emotionally greedy narrator is in fact simply using the person for sexual or perhaps other purposes. |

Swans – A Screw (Holy Money) Lyrics

The song is from the perspective of a rapist to their victim. The image is juxtaposed with that of consumer society and religion, showing the oppression within such institutions and how it relates to rape and other such crimes. |

Neutral Milk Hotel – Song Against Sex Lyrics

This is *not* a song against drug use!
The "and all the drugs I don't have the guts to take" part is obvious. He is experiencing depression but afraid of the potential consequences (legal, emotional, etc) of drug use. He can't find anything else to make him feel better, though, so stays depressed (always sober, always aching, always headed towards mass suicide). The "don't take those pills that your boyfriend gave you" part is referring to taking pills to kill yourself, not doing drugs recreationally.

There are also gay-related things in their liner notes, etc. for instance "gay is good" in the OK Computer liner notes and "heterosexual" written perhaps sarcastically under the two minotaurs holding hands in the Amnesiac liner notes. |

Radiohead – Let Down Lyrics

Thom Yorke writes about relationships, but not here. The lines about transportation refer to literal transportation vehicles, which ties into the sociopolitical themes of the album. "Shell smashed, juices flowing, wings twitch, legs are going" is one line. It is a reference to the metaphorical crushed bug in the chorus. |

Radiohead – Idioteque Lyrics

Not only is there not a narrative on Kid A, but nothing in this song, or the album as a whole, suggests one. I think you're just misinterpreting what Thom meant about the album title. |

Radiohead – Spooks Lyrics

It *wouldn't* fit on IR. At all. Maybe on the bonus disc (which was closer to the "spooky" atmosphere and style of the 2006 tour) but not on In Rainbows.
Anyways, this is an excellent, surfy track and IIRC, I was hoping it would be on "LP7" alongside Down is the New Up, I Want None Of This and Big Boots... |

Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Providence Lyrics

To me, it wasn't that that was terrifying, it was the ending of East Hastings. That part's pretty creepy, but I get used to it. You should keep listening, because you shouldn't miss Kicking Horse. It's one of the best parts of the entire album. |

Kanye West – Love Lockdown Lyrics

BTW I don't quite think the song and my life experience that it reminds me of necessarily match up, just sort of an association. |

2 things about this song:
1. Reminds me of a situation in my life. Not a failed relationship, but a relationship that would be successful but doesn't quite exist because of things beyond my control.
2. "So I keep in mind, when I'm on my own, somewhere far from home, in the danger zone, "how many times did it take 'fore it finally got through?"/You lose, you lose"
If I were in the danger zone, I'd be thinking "holy shit, I'm in the danger zone, how do I get out?!?" |

ICP were never this good... Eminem has a metric fuckton of internal rhyme in this song, whereas ICP are far more conventional in their rhyme schemes. |

"Out of the corner of his cornea he just saw you run/All you want is to rest 'cause you can't run anymore, you're done/All he wants is to kill you in front of an audience/While everybody's watching at the party applauding it"
Fucking A. All the internal rhyme, alliteration, etc... it's really quite poetic. Anyways, I think the song's about blacking out on drugs and killing people... it's really pretty obvious. |

This song kinda annoys me. If they really wanted anarchy, they wouldn't talk about mindless destruction. It's a good song, but being an anarchist it kinda pisses me off. |

... or maybe he just likes to rap about demonic stuff. His songs don't necessarily reflect what he's really like. Besides, there's no such thing as "selling your soul to the devil". |

The tragedy of this song comes from the fact that if the letter was answered just that little bit sooner, the tragedy wouldn't have happened. |

The fuck is your problem? I listen to Eminem, and I'm interested in linguistics and economics. I invented my own language, and love debating politics & philosophy. You may have good grades, but I study existentialism for fun... and I like Eminem. So there. |

This sort of duality between rock and rap fans is just really fucking stupid. I like both genres, and I think hating either is intellectually bankrupt. |

Exactly. They should be glad that he can get those kind of feelings out constructively, instead of actually killing anyone. |

Vampire Weekend – Diplomat's Son Lyrics

"And if I wait could I ever forgive myself?"
I know the feeling. I had a friend who I was attracted to, and I never told him. I still regret it.
Anyways, it's obvious that the narrator of this song is reminiscing about a gay experience he had with a friend, and then he runs into the guy (or his father) again. What happens next, as well as his current circumstances (other than the fact that he is near a river on a cold night) are both ambiguous. Since the order of the song's events isn't clearly stated, it's possible that seeing the car is what triggered the memory. |

Scissor Sisters – I Can't Decide Lyrics

What does "watching out they don't four-letter" mean?
Anyways, I think this (frankly quite awesome) song is about a girl (or possibly a guy) who broke up with this guy and he's so angry that he wants to kill her/him, but he still loves the other person and realizes that if he kills them, there would be consequences. |
