the songs about growing up i think. not trying to grow up but how the person rushed things. theres a couple references to being young than being older. "i bought it in a can, and stirred it with my finger" i dont know about you but when i was younger i never stirred anything with a spoon, i always used my finger. "were slow to acknowledge the knots in our laces" when youre younger, tying your shoes was probably the biggest deal and felt almost impossible to learn. "lately youve been tan, suspicious for the winter" thats another reference. when youre young you notice little stuff like that. "i sold it to a man, and threw him out that window" a metaphor basically saying he gave up being young and now cant get it back. this song is like an ode to being growing up. its perfect |
