The Killers – Read My Mind Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[Sanman99:6599] I hate reading old stuff I've written. I didn't have much internet back then and was younger. Got my hands on a keyboard and typed something with less depth than the kiddie pool. Sht that was a dumb write-up. |

Possibly. Although I'm not sure exactly how that'd fit into the theme of the song. The tone its song doesn't mean it couldn't, I guess. I'm thinking it could have to do with the: "Before you jump" and "teenage queen, the loaded gun" "Broken wrist and a big trapeze". Could mean after jumping, the person broke their wrist. (Among other injuries, fatal?) A big trapeze could be a metaphorical or literal act to try to save the person. Probably a girl he knew. |

-Just tryin to keep it in line He's just living his life. Normal struggles. -You say you wanna move on and -You say I'm falling behind Possibly a girl. She's the type that just wants to break free from the hometown. He's just doing his thing and it's not really his top priority. -Can you read my mind? -Can you read my mind? He wants her to simply understand? -I never really gave up on -Breakin' out of this two-star town He always had in it his list of things to do. Maybe just not soon enough for her? -I got the green light -I got a little fight -I'm gonna turn this thing around He's ready now, kinda. -The good old days, the honest man; -The restless heart, the Promised Land Looking back. Things were different. Restless heart and promised land could be feeling the need to leave and never having it off her mind. -A subtle kiss that no one sees; -A broken wrist and a big trapeze Maybe they dated a while or kissed? A broken wrist - someone got an injury, however big Big trapeze - a safeguard? Someone trying to save said person? -Oh well I don't mind, if you don't mind -'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine He needs her. If you're doing this and it's what you want, I'll be okay with it? -Before you go, can you read my mind? Understand me, before you leave me here? -It’s funny how you just break down -Waitin' on some sign Something's making her upset and break down? She is waiting for some kind of sign? He lightens up the mood by saying it's funny. Maybe he doesn't really think it is, but just adds the word to make it not as serious. -I pull up to the front of your driveway -With magic soakin' my spine He feels so alive being with her. It's almost magical. -The teenage queen, the loaded gun; She's everything to him, or she's popular with people in general. A gun. A suicide attempt? Figurative or literal? -The drop dead dream, the Chosen One -A southern drawl, a world unseen; They have a disagreement? There's a whole world out there. -A city wall and a trampoline A way to get out. The trampoline could either be protective or a figurative way to escape. -Oh well I don't mind, if you don't mind -'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine Reaffirming he needs her. -Before you jump -Tell me what you find when you read my mind Listen to me. You're gonna jump (figurative or literal). What do you think I'd say? Read my mind, you know me better than anyone. Before you jump, cause I know you would. What would your old friend say to you? Read my mind. -Slippin’ in my faith until I fall -You never returned that call Craziness. Maybe he has too much faith. So much he slips in it and it collapses and backfires. She never returned that call. Is she around to return another? Alive or in another town? -Woman, open the door, don't let it sting -I wanna breathe that fire again He knows her. He'll call her woman, this is serious. This hurts him and begs her to open the door, for him. Maybe she's shutting him out and leaving. Maybe she's gonna hurt herself. Either way, he wants that liveliness and fire she gives his life. He needs it. He needs her. -She said I don't mind, if you don't mind -'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine She's saying it now. She says she doesn't mind. Maybe talking about something he'll do. Maybe saying she doesn't mind doing this "jump" (figurative or literal) if he says he doesn't mind. She needs him. -Put your back on me -Put your back on me -Put your back on me He's begging her now. Or maybe they're both saying it. Be with me. Trust me. I'll protect you. And again figurative or literal. Is she standing on something and gonna jump and he is thinking or saying don't do it? Or some figurative meaning for leaving town. -The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun -When you read my mind He loves it when she reads his mind. She knows him. They have a close relationship. Is he looking up at the stars in a later time in life at night? Just looking at them, so beautiful but not where they're from or supposed to be. They left the sun to disperse throughout the sky. Is she one of the stars? Dead? Or is she just in a faraway place on Earth and this is how he remembers her? |
