Tom Gabel wrote this song about a friend of his named C.C. who was killed. He wrote this song for her.
The guitar line sounds a lot like "No Surrender" by Bruce Springsteen. This was also intentional, Tom said, because he and C.C. would hang out together and listen to him together. He said he made it that way so it would remind him of those nights he spent with her. |

I fucking love this song. It really does say a lot about this underground conflict of anarchists versus everone else (but in the case of this song, mostly liberals) which is the origin of the band's name. Everyone's selling these ideas of how to feel and Against Me! is saying that there's a whole revolution of free thinkers out there. LOVE the song! |

I went to one of Vampire Weekend concerts and right before they sang this song, Ezra told us what it was about. He said it was about some guy from Palo Alto who made this (lots of big words meaning deliberate) choice to break from society and become a free thinking individual.
