It's probably just my personal look at it, but I saw it as watching someone else fall victim to drug use. In the line, "Call it aftermath, she's turning blue, While I just sit and stare at you," I thought of how people overdose and if she is dying from it, or can't breathe, she would turn blue. And he's just watching because he knew it would happen and maybe he tried to tell her, but she didn't listen, so now he's just watching her. Also with the line, "Just ignore the smoke and smile," it seems like he's done trying to help... he's just going to let it happen because he knows that he can't change things. It's just my opinion, but reading Rob Matter's opinion, the idea of an affair seems logical, as well. |

I can see it the same way bazal, but personally, probably through my own experiences, I see it as the girl being quite like his saviour. He was in this dark place, "this black hole I've dug for me," and she's the reason for him to be able to come out of it. The one part says, "You're beautiful sky, the light you bring, it falls on me." It's as though she's all he needed to break through into the light. She heals his wounds and gives him hope. And he asks if he has the strength to keep going now that she's taken him in. I don't know... just my thoughts. |

The whole political theory makes a hell of a lot of sense to me... especially the line "Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils." It seems to be saying that I'll protect you from pain, but I'm also going to take away your ability to choose and know the the truth.
It also says to "lay your head down", which to me, means "Don't worry about it. You don't need to know anything. I'll take care of it." It really shows how government doesn't want you to have any say or know anything that could cause you to go against them. This song becomes a lot more fitting now that they are talking about re-instating the draft (and making it mandatory for EVERYONE 18-26 to go to war. College can't help you now). Which of course, they won't try to do until after the election... wouldn't want you to think badly about Bush, now would we? |

How did this turn into the latest Holy War? I mean, we're talking about a song, everyone has their opinions, get over it. We don't need to hear a recap of the Bible. That isn't why we came here. Tell your opinion and let it go. I'm sure everyone here has their opinion of religion, but no one else is shoving it down anyone else's throats. So relax. If someone thinks that religion is bullshit, let them believe it. It's not your responsibility to force them into religion. If they don't believe nothing you can say will make them. Whatever belief you believe in God or not, you're basing your beliefs on theories. If He did exist, there's no proof, so therefore, you believe in the story that was told and you believe that He created the world, but, I could be wrong when I say that it never says where God came from. If you don't believe in God, then you believe in the idea that somehow, somewhere, the world was formed, Big Bang Theory or otherwise. So however everything was formed is unknown... you take it as it comes and you believe what you believe. Now can we please lay this to rest? We're here talking about a song, there's no need to debate about religion. That may be a little hypocritical, due to the context of this, but I was just trying to say that there is no right or worng when it comes to religion. It's all about your personal belief system. |

I could be completely wrong here, heaven knows it wouldn't be the first time, but it seems as though the song is about someone who wonders how their boyfriend/girlfriend lives so happily and so freely when they're feeling so much pain. The line "Your lightness darkens me" kind of made me think that. It seems like the singer sees it as unfair that the other is so happy and so unaffected, that it simply makes her feel even worse. |

I think what he's saying in this song is that he loves her, but she isn't ready and she keeps pushing him away and she's always looking for something new, something better. he knows that she loves him, but he can't wait forever while she goes around looking elsewhere. he wants her to be with him and he wants it to be real. He wants her to share what she's feeling b/c he wants to help her. |

personnally, i'm not a huge fan of the goo goo dolls, but this song hits me hard. i definitely think it's about being with someone, but not being able to get all of them. it tells them to let go of their fears and be free... allow themselves to love and don't let the past get in the way of happiness. |

First off, I'd have to agree with kon104, all he's tlaking about is wanting to know how everything's going to turn out in the end. he says that he wants to make sure that his life is going in the right direction and that the path he's taking isn't going to lead him astray.
Second - They do sound like Incubus, but if you listen, you'll hear the different life experiences in the songs. Incubus has come far because their music is based on their songs... not on pop culture. this is why they have come so far and hoobastank does the same, which is why they're going to last a long time. |
