Grampall Jookabox – You Cried Me Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Pretty easy to get the literal meaning--girl is in love with the speaker, who seems to be a vampire. He thinks he's a monster and doesn't think they should be involved with one another. Finally though he just kind of gives in, bites her (though it seems to be out of necessity, as I think she's being attacked by a zombie? haha), and lets them be evil together. So pretty Twilight, haha. Way more fun though. <3 But if I can be one of those assholes who looks for deeper meanings in everything, I think it can be applied to regular people too; you know you're not good enough to be with this person, you've got issues and are messed up, but they're still there for you and you go through everything together. |
Xiu Xiu – Bishop, CA Lyrics | 13 years ago |
just a fun note, "wala" apparently means "I swear" in arabic. Doubt it's relevant, but still. Anyway, this song is fucking brutal and is what I love about Xiu Xiu. |

Emmy the Great – 24 Lyrics | 13 years ago |
meaning is pretty clear imo, it comes across as one of those moments on your birthday after you've celebrated and what not and the whole growing old and your life so far thing hits you. Really incredible song though. |
Los Campesinos! – A Heat Rash in the Shape of the Show Me State; or, Letters from Me to Charlotte Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I interpreted this as a story of two people who fall in love with one another, actually, though it is told in the sarcastic perspective of someone who sees them as sort of pathetic. "And she found it disgusting, 'cause it didn't match her clothing. He said "that's not yellow, it's golden"." Always came off to me as if he worshiped a lot about her, and tried to make her seem a lot better than she actually was. "And how the frequent public displays of sisterly affection, Left her feeling safe, left him with an erection." as well as "Her body barely visible, as bleach white as the bedsheets. As stiff as starched, only perceptible as her middle was still branded With a heat rash, in the perfect shape of the Show Me State." Make me feel as if she had previously been in a bad relationship that ended in abuse; she flirted with this guy not necessarily because she liked him, but because he made her feel safe; he did it only for sexual pleasure. ""They appropriated everything we ever loved, and dressed it up in quotations and fluff. And I had a dream: [though said with hands in pocket, I mean it hand on heart] You held a gun to his head, pressed your thumbs to her throat". " This is from the perspective of the person who finds them repulsive, who often feels a bit violent in regards to how ridiculous and fake the two are. |
Xiu Xiu – Hyunhye's Theme Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Parents that force their child into law school, making it seem as if the only way that they will ever be proud of you, like it's your obligation as their child to succeed. The song just gives me the feeling of being sick of it all, of being conflicted between pleasing your family and pleasing yourself. Of spending your whole life as their 'good girl'. Asian families have been notorious for this; 'diaspora' implies that the family has moved from their country of origin to make a 'better future' for their child... which gets out of control. A really beautiful song, though. |
Johnny Foreigner – Every Cloakroom Ever Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I could be wrong, but I took the song as this: There's a couple who are together, but due to differences in social class, are ridiculed for their relationship ("When I see yr friends around, I will stare them down Bite my lip and I will whisper my love"), but overcome it but simply reassuring themselves of their love. One of them is very lower-class ("I think yr city's a mess, yr birds don't know when to sing" , "Come candle light our path through the burlesque queens"), and often doubts whether they are good enough for the other; to which they are reassured "don't doubt yr worth". |
Los Campesinos! – How I Taught Myself to Scream Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Pretty sure this: "We'll bulldoze this city, plough it to the ground But with two steps you just build something... worse" Is supposed to be: "We'll bulldoze this city, plough it to the ground, but we're too scared to just build something worse." |
Hello Saferide – Long lost penpal Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"There was this letter I never told you this back then But it would be fair to say it saved my life I sat in the window The only one left out from a party again Pretty sure I didn't have a single friend Then I checked the mailbox" That's so sweet. <3 I do agree, this ends pretty creepy, but it is a kind of understandable creepiness. He really did help the girl's life and he did really care about her. He too was looking for a sort of escape from his real life. |
Hello Saferide – My Best Friend Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I love this song. <3 It's just so spunky and wonderful. I especially like this line: "We even like the same movies No damn jedis or hobbits, this time!" hahaha (even though I'm a huge star wars nerd) |
The Postal Service – Sleeping In Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I've always loved the bit about Global Warming, though I never saw it as sarcastic. I find the narrative of the song to be very childish and idealistic, and what they're presenting in that verse is just a positive outlook on the issue; that maybe it isn't going to kill us all, and since people to tend to enjoy the heat (though I find that incredibly masochistic of them), it's all good. |
Ten In The Swear Jar – When You Write Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The meaning seems pretty easy. The two people met and instantly clicked, then somehow moved away from one another. They continue to have a letter-writing relationship, and they're both just waiting for when they can be together. |
Ten In The Swear Jar – Helsabot Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Do your pants ever just fall off off off" I love the way that line is whispered. I'm not crazy about the song as a whole, but wow... I listen to it just for that. |
