Shoot... Came to see if my interpretation is correct in other people's eyes and what do I see? Some God references? Seriously? I expected drug addiction, soldiers with PTSD, but not God.

To me, it's about growing up, not feeling ashamed for your own choices when others ridicule them, not listening to others... and simply "doing your own thing".

You, sir... Are either an abusive idiot or a failed troll.

This song is just mashing together words in a way that sounds nice and "diabolical". BHG has yet to write a serious song with a deep meaning.

It's just a feel good chopper riding song. I get the bike riding part due to the slight undertones of "Yeah... You're bad... You still have cash to waste oil... What did you do? Sell your soul?" and the chopper part... Seriously... This isn't as fast and pointless as a damn crotch rocket... I'd love to have a nice slow ride with this in my headphones. Sadly... I'm too responsible to limit my hearing on the road.

1. A vomitorium is the place where the Romans went when their stomach was full. There a handsome male eunuch, most often of African origin used a feather from a peacock's tail, tickling their soft palate to make them vomit, so they could go back to the party and eat even more. It is the symbol of the corruption and hedonism of the late Roman Empire. Here it is used as a way to mock the hedonistic lifestyle of most so-called artists, not only hip-hop MCs.

2. You may have your own opinion, but this song is most definitely NOT a hundred times better than a rap(really... a rap song... what a silly idea... you don't sing rap. It's a rhythmical declamation, not singing). If you knew anything about rap and hip-hop, you wouldn't be so fast to judge them. I agree. It is a good diss, or if you don't know what that is... a roast. It is however unspecific. The dissing party, here PoS, doesn't say who they're attacking, so there's no need to fight back. Guess, after a deeper look, there may be a hint of attacking Eminem, but I'm not sure about that.

I'm not dissing (disrespecting) Daniel. I like PoS, and he does have a good rap flow. Plus, he has some skills with wordplay (personal favorite - shit hits the fans).

And finally:

3. Irony - a statement in which the meaning that a speaker employs is sharply different from the meaning that is ostensibly expressed. The ironic statement usually involves the explicit expression of one attitude or evaluation, but with indications in the overall speech-situation that the speaker intends a very different, and often opposite, attitude or evaluation.

Or, to dumb it down a few notches, cause it looks like you need that, irony is when you mean one thing, but you say something completely different, sometimes opposite to what you really mean, showing your real meaning only through how you say it.

This image is one of the most fascinatingly repulsive images I've ever had the doubtful pleasure to witness.

A soldier comes back to his homeland to find it in ruins. He sees a boy. He reminds him of his own son, whom he has lost a long time ago, when he went to fight in the war. He may or may not be his son. Somehow, i don't know how I got that the boy is more likely a son of an enemy. The boy, dying of an unspecified illness, is clinging to hope, but (if we combine the image with a very close one, the image Daniel paints with the lyrics of Oblivion Ocean) the soldier knows that his mother is dead. He stays with the boy all day and waits till he goes to sleep before doing what he, in the end, does... But here's the twist: The soldier drugs the boy, to give him a moment of happiness and lack of pain from his illness. The war-wrecked soldier, and the dying child act like father and son for this one day. They spend it happily. They stop at the shore of a body of water. (Oblivion Ocean?)

Then, with the boy lying in his arms, his back turned, asleep, hugged by the soldier... Look out, if you are faint of heart, don't read on.

The soldier slits the boys throat, delivering a blow of mercy, severing most his blood vessels to give him a fast and, due to the drugs and quick blood loss, painless death, knowing that he is doing the child a favor, shortening his time on this earth by only a few hours and sparing him a death of long agony. He shoves the body into the water, imagining the boy now happy and healthy in the everlasting plains of the afterlife. He vomits, down on his knees, and here the lyrics end, so only the music shows us what happens next. The last words, say that the soldier closes "the book"... The same book he was in the beginning using to "bring release" so I guess it must be the Bible. He closes it, which is a symbol of rejecting it, and the music becomes much harder and stronger, so I guess he stops his "silly" moment of being a merciful, loving human, and goes back to being a ruthless killing machine the war needs him to be.

This reminds me of a certain holy ground of Native Americans that was taken away from them because the hills were almost filled with uranium. After using up the mines, the white man put their radioactive waste into the already radioactive set of tunnels. Heck, if it's already radioactive... Why waste such a perfect hiding spot for lethally radioactive waste? The natives came back on their land, their sacred ground only meant to be visited by shamans who got visions after staying there for a few days...

Flash-bang grenade, or a fragmentation grenade... Either way, the soldier is hurt, white knuckles, and cold skin would indicate losing blood flow in one of his arms. Blue lights bring to mind an ambulance, or hospital lighting, that is a blueish hue.

Babel, Cold fact, Core mine, Black gold, Failure, Lock down, Gun-hands, All sold.
Babel = middle east - location; cold fact = realization; black gold = oil... Duuh; failure and lockdown = him being kept in hospital, where he has time to think; gun-hands and all sold = the infamous blood for oil idea of anti-war people in the U.S.

This doesn't even need explanation. It's his interpretation of what the leaders are telling him. Happily he didn't lose his arm.

Oops... This time he lost something that they can't heal so fast... His eye. And it was with his own grenade, as we can see from the feeling of the "cold pin" in his hand when he regains consciousness. The doctors smile at him with the false compassion that only army doctors have.

Guiltknife, Scarsoil. Sinstain, Killchrome, Footbare, Gone wrong, Blue lights, Bring me home

Guiltknife=The now ex-soldier tries to slit his wrists. Scarsoil and sinstain both would sugest he tries it on the arm he almost lost earlier, but I'm not entirely sure, it may be just that he's still in the middle east, where so many bad things happened to him. Killchrome=knife he used. Footbare=he slips on his own blood.Gone wrong=Someone notices him due to the thud he makes falling down. Blue Lights= Again, an indication that he's in hospital, so they bring him back and (bring me home=) send him back home.

Disclaimer: this is just my opinion. I may be wrong.

Captain Obvious to the rescue: Disillusionment of a soldier and the heartlessness of the leaders who see soldiers just as numbers.

To dwell on the subject a bit more:

Think about your ordinary mission report from a failed mission in a difficult and dangerous war:
"Out of the 100 men we sent in, 21 were injured so bad they had to be sent home, 16 suffered minor injuries, such as losing a finger or a toe, 11 were killed. 52 survived without injuries, but had to extract the others, thus leading to failure of reaching their goal."

A normal, even a bit informal, report. Now imagine your friends and neighbors... How many of a hundred is Mr Smith from 3 blocks away, who'll never see his wife again, and will never lay his eyes on his newborn daughter, cause he lost both his eyes in a grenade explosion? Hom many out of a hundred it your best buddy who'll never drink a bottle of Budweiser with you again, cause his body was brought back home in 3 separate caskets. How many out of a hundred is that girl you almost had the courage to pick up, who's body was never even found?

"God, how could I believe?", indeed.

The song could also be called let us cry. Walk with me...

I'll take you on a trip through the life of the slightly disturbed lyrical "I" of the song.

He's a man who hasn't closed his mind to the horrible injustice of the world. He sees everything, he notices how sad the world has become. It brings him to tears. He lets them fall to calm himself down.

He passes by people on the streets, who work their hands to the bone, work till they bleed, just to keep a roof over their families heads. He sees them crying silently at the hopelessness of their lives, or becoming numb. He even sometimes notices that some can't take it anymore, and commit suicide in quiet ways. It might also be that he sees them killed by muggers, who use taking their hard earned cash to keep their own lazy asses out of doing anything productive. It may also refer to both these groups. Anyway... he sees their deaths as small flower buds of blood, tiny stains on the system. Too small to be noticed by the numb society. Again, he lets himself cry.

Then he sees a child, poor, hungry, most probably ill due to being malnourished.. But the child doesn't sit and cry. It has strength to go on living. Seeing that not only despair exists, he gains hope for mankind. A hope that was long gone in him. It hurts. He takes the remedy in the form of tears once more.

The tears that have been helping for years are no longer enough... Subconsciously he sees that silent tears will not change anything. They will be an homage to the fallen, but will not stop the cruelty of the world. He can't live in such a world anymore, but at least he knows a way to make his death meaningful. His suicide will be a scream. A wake up call for the ones remaining in this world, a shout that something has to change, and that they are not alone in their misery. He chooses a 10 floor building and jumps.

In his last two seconds he realizes consciously why he is jumping. The ground gets closer. He smiles with a flicker from tears forming in his eyes. He hits the ground. Splat. His blood spreads out on the street, hitting the ground floor windows, shocking the people out of their numb state. He dies knowing that his suicide will be talked about for months, hoping that it will change something.

It is nothing more than an interpretation. Daniel loves to give us these shocking one-man stories. Recall "Plains of Dawn", for example. Heck, even Iter Impius, though we can't just as easily feel pity and compassion for Mr Money as for the other characters he places in these extreme situations. Please, point out errors in my reasoning if you think there are any.

Why do I say it's a 10 floor building? I place his point of realization at the point of jumping. Acceleration of 9.81 meters per second. 2 seconds so he travels 2 times as much in the second second. :P So: 9.81 + 2 x 9.81 = 29.43 meters. 29.43... Let us simplify it to 30... so... Adding the space for pipes and cables to the 2.something meter floors gives us around 3 meters per floor. He falls for 2 seconds, which means he goes 30 meters before he hits. 3 meters per floor... 10 floors. Q.E.D. <--Typed this thing so you guys to see I'm not some silly romantic with a low IQ, making a sap-story.

Actually... Both interpretations, the starlets and bimbos and the vinyl record, are true... It's the whole secret... Daniel is trying to say that new stars of music normally heard at parties, and by their attractive image a lot of young girls lured into becoming like the fake personae written by PR specialists are now mass-produced. They are in a way vinyl records, mass pressed to fit any "player" who visits the dance clubs.

Oh... and not to be racist... The girls, unlike the vinyls don't have to be black to fit into my interpretation... White trash tramp-stamped girls and all other types of cheep sellouts also fit.

I am not a hater... I just acknowledge their existence. Some people just don't have the luck of being able to have high standards like others. If they grow up in conditions that only enable them to get "love" by getting "pretty things" and rides in their boyfriends pimped-out cars, to make their friends jealous... Well... Tough luck... I have nothing but compassion for them.

Newt nailed it. People are too busy obsessing over idols, be it humans, items, or ideas, without thinking of future generations, not even their own kids.

I also loved the tiny shout-out to their own earlier album. "Entro-people" is a reminder of the road that this band went thru to get to their level of public respect allowing them to attack the idols so directly.

To me, without looking too deeply into it, the song is, strangely, about... love. Two people, both with traumatic experiences, both mentally unstable due to those experiences, who at first find not just sex, but a strange attraction, born from understanding, from finding someone as messed up by life as themselves, only to find that they're too hurt to ever fully trust anyone anymore and to decide to go their own separate ways. "He" then finds that he's desperate to keep her with him, thus needing to say out loud almost all that is said in the song lyrics, asking her in this uncommon way to stay with him, telling her, maybe for the first time, that he wasn't just "using" her, like all the other men have used her, to feel physical pleasure, but that he has actually fallen for her.

Don't hate me for such an interpretation... I'm just a hopeless romantic.

Oh... And about the ending... If you want true happiness for someone as messed u as they are... You have to find a way to make them forget about it. He can't. But still... He tries....

Rated down. You just didn't take even one closer look... You just saw that he said something bad about America as it is now and automatically went do defense mode, disregarding the song's meaning entirely. This page is called SongMeanings.net, not TheFirstThingThatComesToMyMindAfterLookingThruTheLyricsForAFewSeconds.net.

Look deeper. Daniel loves America. The America of old. The America of "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" The America of "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, [...] with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

He is begging you only to ask yourself one thing: Is modern America still "the land of the free and home of the brave"? Going deeper into that: Does the Star-spangled Banner, representing each state as a white star(clear of guilt for grievous wrong-doings), combined with the red stripes of valor and honor and the white stripes(once again bringing to mind purity and innocence), still wave over the policies of the federation of free countries that make up the United States? Does it still deserve the white stripes of innocence, or should they be turned "dollar" green, "oil" black, and "blood" red? And in the end... Do the American people really not care that their ideals, the thoughts that they've been taught to have since they were little kids, their most revered texts, such as The Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, and the first ten amendments to the Constitution known as The Bill of Rights are being raped by stupid, greedy, scared little shits(sorry for being vulgar, but nothing else gives the meaning I wish in such concise form) with nothing on their minds but "How to stuff as much cash in our wallets as possible, before somebody notices and kicks us out?"?

The time is up. The people, some, like Daniel Gildenlow, from the outside, some, like Stephen Lynch for example, from inside the States, have opened their eyes and see how wrong things have become. They're trying to wake the others, those who don't see it yet, up.

To finish this rant... I'll quote Benjamin Franklin and the most famous paraphrase that will make things easier for those who don't like to analyze things too deeply:

Sorry guys... This song isn't Anti-American... this song is the most Pro-American song I've heard since Stephen Lynch sang his song by the same title. Their message is almost the same. I recommend listening to Stephen's America, cause he hits the last point much harder. It helped me to understand this song. Daniel believes in the "American Dream", but he can see that it turned into the "American Nightmare", and has hope that there's still enough time and strength for Americans to go back to the pure dream of the past.

This one is so straight forward, it doesn't need a close reading analysis. Just one line is enough to give you the meaning. "Don't let them say you ain't beautiful, They can all get fucked, just stay true to you".

Stay true to yourself, without having to lie to make yourself popular. The people who are worth being your friends will understand and praise you for being yourself, not some cool guy who doesn't believe a thing he says. The ones who don't understand you're being yourself, who need the lies, the pretense... You shouldn't care what they think, cause if they need to pretend they're someone else for others to like them, they're worthless.

The return of the great Marshall Bruce Mathers the 3rd. One of my favourite Eminem songs. I mean... I like Shady and his "fooling around with lyrics and sound" (as one of my friends once called it), but when a serious Marshall song comes out... It's bound to become a hit.

Beautiful epitaph for a lost friend. Even using their inside-joke/nickname... I'm just... Speechless. Telling Proof he's going to remain a rapper till the day he dies. "Like toy soldiers" coming true.. Who would have thought... Almost four years, before Em could finally say those words. Four years of mourning. That's true friendship.

Oh... the meaning... Eminem is saying throughout the song, that he's going to struggle everyday to be the best rapper he can, to keep his memory alive, and if there's an afterlife, to try to make Proof proud.

You may be gone, but you're never over.

What's up with all of you interpreting the video as an abortion?

The child, as the song itself states (if the lyrics are correct in this instance) is 9 months old. Even if it's not, no doctor would ever abort a fully developed fetus.

To me it looks more like a normal birth, although with a few complications, as the child didn't turn in the womb and it is much too small. That may be caused by the mother taking illegal recreational drugs durring pregnancy (which would also account for the blossoming black flowers - injections sometimes leave a dark scarring that stretches out, in a few directions, along the capilaries just under the skin, creating a flower shape). Notice also the involuntary twitches of the child in the video.

Here's a close reading analysis, following this theory.

"Love... love is a verb. Love is a doing word."

For the drug addict mother the only "love" is in "making love" to get cash for her fix.

"Fearless on my breath"

Confidence that comes with the beginning of withdrawal symptoms. A drug addict can be very convincing with whatever stories he is telling someone to get cash for the next fix.

"Gentle impulsion
Shakes me makes me lighter"

Not really so gentle, although it may feel like it, as the injection releaves the mother of the pain of withdrawal. It does, on the other hand, have a huge negative influence on the babies growth and health.

"Fearless on my breath"

Not afraid for the child, not giving a damn. At least on the outside.

"Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath"

Fire... again withdrawing from drug use can feel like fire going thru your vains. Thinking about the health of your unborn child will not, in most cases, be enough for you to go "cold turkey".

Nine months of pregnancy...

"Black flowers blossom"

All of which spent injecting herself with drugs.

Not giving a damn.

More and more scars, but still, on the outside, not looking like she cares. Repeating to herself, trying to make it true, thru repetition, believing that if you lie to yourself long enough, it'll become true.

Notice that "breath" is missing this time. Inside, she's in agony for what she's doing to her baby, but the hunger is too strong. She hides her feelings, even from herself, under the soothing effects of the drugs. She can't, however, help feeling guilty at night, just before sleep, in the lonely darkness of her bed.

Most faithful mirror"

Crying, showing what she really feels, alone on her way to the hospital, to deliver the child.

"Fearless on my breath"

Not giving... you know. If not, look at the earlier versions.

"Teardrop on the fire of a confession"

Imagine her admitting to a drug use problem, while being taken to the delivery room. All in tears for what she's done... Imagine being the doctor, who knows what it is going to cause to the baby, born addicted to the filth she was shooting herself up with... Wouldn't you (the doctor) think "Tears? She should be in such psychological agony, she'd be tearing her own face off with her fingernails for what she's done to her child."

Realisation = Complete numbness.

Numb... But the eyes still overflow with tears.

Ok... to be clearer, I'll just theorize about the mothers thougths. "I most likely killed the only thing that's good in my life... I don't diserve to live... The child does..."

I'm stumbling in the dark"

And again, the mothers thoughts: "I don't know what to do with myself. I don't deserve to live. Just f*&^%#g kill me. I can't take the pain anymore."


Sorry for the use of the word kill and the one single (censored, if I may add) profanity in my interpretation, but the message (delivered both in lyrics and the sound [both vocals and the music]) is harsh, so the use of one profanity in translating the climactic moment of the song to normal everyday language was, in my humble opinion, justified.

Overall a very powerful message. But hey... It's just an interpretation. I could also give a few other interpretations - much softer, much more acceptable. I do, however, sense great sorrow both in the way she sings the song and in the music itself, so...
