Apocalyptica – Broken Pieces Lyrics 13 years ago
To me it seems like a relationship where she is seeing a different side of someone that she fell in love of with. She wants to love him and remember him as she originally saw him, but cant do it. It reminds me of either an abusive relationship or a relatinoship where he was cheating.

Avantasia – The Toy Master Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this is open to a variety of interpretations. To me its about something that is pleasant on the surface to hook someone in, and then destroys them. A vice or temptation of some kind.

It makes me think of the singer as supposed to be the devil, that makes sin look good. Or else a dictator or corrupt official that gains support by appearing to be helpful.

It also reminds me of Master of Puppets by Metallica, which makes me think that maybe it could be about drugs?

Avenged Sevenfold – Welcome to the Family Lyrics 14 years ago
I think that maybe "the Family" is supposed to be like society. When they say "welcome to the family", it refers to someone who has been exposed to the cruelty and violence of society.
The whole "Can you look at yourself now?" might be them saying that society has began to corrupt that person, they cant bear to look at themselves. And when they say "you can't win this fight!", this may mean, they cannot fight the control that society has on them. They can try to resist it, but it is inevitable that the world will destroy them in one way or another.
Idk if this is what they had meant, but for me its about someone who loses themselves and is overwhelmed by all the negative aspects of the world.

KMFDM – Anarchy Lyrics 14 years ago
yeah, eric harris (and maybe dylan too?) was a kmfdm fan.. he actually would frequently post their lyrics on his website. However, kmfdm issued a statement expressing a statement expressing sympathy for the victim's families..

"First and foremost, KMFDM would like to express their deep and heartfelt sympathy for the parents, families and friends of the murdered and injured children in Littleton. We are sick and appalled, as is the rest of the nation, by what took place in Colorado yesterday"

Both of the killers were screwed up in the head and would have committed the masacre regardless of whether or not they were kmfdm fans..

A Day to Remember – You Should Have Killed Me When You Had the Chance Lyrics 14 years ago
Maybe im reading way to deep into this, but...

I almost get the impression that the town that he is leaving doesn't know that he killed someone. Its going to bother him that they called him his friends, because they really didn't know him or what he did.

He talks about "writing" a lot. There is the "writing on the wall" in the chorus, a mention of "rewriting the story told a thousand times" in a second verse, and then at the end when he isnt sure if he should "write off". Im not sure if this right, but he had also said that when he killed whoever the blood was spattered across the wall. That almost makes me think that he manipulated the evidence (bc from blood evidence you can tell how a person was killed, at what angle they were shot etc.)

The fact that he says "our" end table implies that he was close to the person that he killed... possibly that it was a girlfriend or something. I almost get the impression that she knew he was a psychopath, but didnt do anything about or "kill" him, or metaphorically "kill" the dark side of him. She knew he was dangerous but didnt do anything.

So basically to me, this tells a story. His girlfriend cheated on him, and he became extremely angry. The town with eyes and ears knew about it. He kills her and makes her death look like a suicide by manipulating the blood ("writing") on the wall. He leaves the town with his dignity as depicted in the first few lines. They think that she killed herself out of guilt, and this makes them not want to be unfairful in relationships ("and i knew this would make them change"). These people didn't really know him, but the girl he killed knew his extreme anger, and didnt stop him when she had the chance.

Idk if that makes sense lol?

Breaking Benjamin – Lights Out Lyrics 14 years ago
It could be about a lot of things that suck the life out of you and pull you down... I think of drug addiction, bc of the line "venom in your skin".

Bullet for My Valentine – Pretty on the Outside Lyrics 14 years ago
I kind of took it literally... like he is pissed at a girl who is pretty he kills her out of anger. ("If i tear you open wide, take a look inside, are you pretty?") He cuts her open, and she looks gross on the inside. Idk if thats what was meant necessarily but for some reason thats what i always think of =p

Default – It Only Hurts Lyrics 14 years ago
it seems like he loves this girl, but she doesnt feel the same way or isnt putting in the effort. he is trying to deny himself and beleive that it will all work out, but when he "opens his eyes" he realizes that she doesnt. it sounds like he has made this same mistake before where he got caught up, and doesnt want to loose track of reality.
to me this is about him slowly realizing that she doesnt love him and he has to move on... great song! <3

Disturbed – Another Way to Die Lyrics 14 years ago
yeah, i agree the meaning is extremely obvious. we are destroying the earth and the only way to change it to is to change our behavior and confront that "dark side" of society and of ourselves... its a good song but i would expect better from Disturbed. Its not bad or anything, but I hope the rest of the album is better.

Avenged Sevenfold – Nightmare Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it can be taken literally as hell, or as a personal hell (such as insanity).

I don't know if this is what they meant, but when I first heard this, I pictured someone in a mental asylum. Like someone went insane, and their madness prompted to commit a crime. They were judged insane and got sent to a prison or insane asylum and continued to lose track of reality and go insane.

Just my personal thoughts, not necessarily what they meant.

Marina and the Diamonds – Oh No! Lyrics 14 years ago
It reminds me of someone who is so obsessed with trying to become what society expects them to be- perfect and succesful- that they wind up loosing track of reality and becomming fake. The girl in the song sounds like she is trying to convince herself that she is happy and that her life is perfect.

Don't do love, don't do friends
I'm only after success
Don't need a relationship
I'll never soften my grip

-It sounds like she is denying that she needs anyone but herself and her success. Maybe it was just the way she sand it but she almost sounded sarcastic.-

Don't want cash, don't want car
Want it fast, want it hard
Don't need money, don't need fame
I just want to make a change
I just wanna change (x4)

-I almost got the impression here that she was sort of bored with her life ("wanting a chance"), so in order to cure her boredom, she changed her personality. She pretends that she doesnt care about relationships with people and only cares about success.-

CHORUS:
I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no

-I feel like this describes her trying to acheive her changed personality (acheiving whatever success she is hoping for). By becmoming a self-fulfilled prophecy, she is becomming what she expected herself to be by forcing herself to change-

One track mind, one track heart
If I fail, I'll fall apart
Maybe it is all a test
Cause I feel like I'm the worst
So I always act like I'm the best

-She has now become obsessed with acting this way, and she has put so much effort into it that she knows that she will fall apart if she fails. She has doubts about herself, despite what she said in the first section, because she is not being herself. Consequently, she asks even faker trying to prove that she is confident and doesnt care what people thing-

If you are not very careful
Your possessions will possess you
TV taught me how to feel
Now real life has no appeal
It has no appeal (x4)

-This made me think of how she tried to mirror herself based on societies expectations of her, but knows that this is not herself. However, she feels as if her actual personality wouldnt be as good as others' expectations of her-

CHORUS (x2)

I'm gonna live, I'm gonna fly,
I'm gonna fail, I'm gonna die,
I'm gonna live, I'm gonna fly
I'm gonna fail, gonna die, die, die, die

CHORUS (x2)

Da-da-dum...
Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no

Idk if this is the legit meaning, this is just my personal interpretation.

Halestorm – Innocence Lyrics 14 years ago
I think that literally, the song is talking about a younger teenager who has fallen for someone older, who really doesnt want a relationship with them, but just wants to take their innocence.

I think on another level tho, it can also be about not feeling good enough for someone. Like someone is pure and innocent, but you feel that you are flawed and immoral. It can be about someone's past or something that they are ashamed of interferes with their next relationship. Parts like "your too perfect for my hands to hold" makes me think of this.
Im not sure if this is what the singer meant literally, but its kind of how I take it.
