Seems straightforward enough! A couple that knows that things between them aren't working out, yet neither of them have the balls to break it up. Every time they try, they fall short and say something like "lets keep trying." Over time this becomes more and more "Draining"
On a side note, that part at around 3:25 legit gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it...something is very deep about it...idk, maybe that's just me, but it seems to capture the theme of the whole song, despair and sadness |

VERY clever lyrics here! Great song! Here is what I think this song means:
It's about someone who lives under the motto of "carpe diem" and misinterprets the true meaning of the phrase and just lives life sensually. They simply see life as a "heavy abacus" that ticks the seconds of their life away. They think that living a fake "plastic" life crazily and recklessly will make them feel that they are living their live to the fullest. However, as time and the person's life keeps passing by,the abacus gets heavier and heavier, haunting them more and more, regardless of how much they pursue such a reckless lifestyle. The superficial happiness wares off quicker and quicker, and at the end of everyday, the person looks at them self in the mirror and realizes that they aren't happy, so it leads them to want to party even harder than they did the day before.
This person doesn't realize, however, that "seize the day" truly means (in my opinion) that you should make the most out of every day by doing what you WANT, and not just pursuing every whim and impulse that you have without thinking twice about it. I've seen alot of people use the terms "impulse/whim" and "wish/dream" interchangeably. I guess the person in this song is one of those people!
It's good to see a new band have creativity nowadays! I' excited to see more great stuff from The Joy Formidable in the years to come!! :) |

10,000 days is an album where all the songs are related to eachother. This song makes me think that this song and Lost Keys are paired together. And considering that the idea of angels and the divine seems to be a theme in this album, I kinda think that the person telling this story is an angel sent from God who is in shock at the violence and corruption present in mankind. |

I can't stand it when people read lyrics, and NO MATTER WHAT they assume its about either drugs, war, or some other form of disestablishmentism. Now that being said...
I feel that this song is about an argument between a couple that evolves into something much bigger than it actually started out to be. Anyone who has been in a relationship knows that the longer that you hold anger and frustration with your boyfriend/girlfriend, the tougher it gets to keep in. Then your boyfriend/girlfriend does something small and insignificant and it just sets you off for almost no reason and you bring up everything that has been building inside of you and a very bitter fight breaks out. The majority of this song is about how the argument itself and about whether they feel like their relationship is worth all of the continuous fighting that it is causing between them. After they talk out their frustrations, they decide to stay together because they feel that in the long run, things will work on in the end, even though they still have their doubts. |

Its actually "FEARS are only walls that hold me here..." instead of "These are only walls that hold me here..."
But this song is a true work of art. Not many bands nowadays can pull off using a piano in a song and meshing it with an electric guitar successfully. I'm expecting good stuff form this band in the years to come. |
