Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics 13 years ago
i think you're all correct about what thom said and about karma and all that. though i haven't read all 200+ comments yet, it seems along the surface we all missed something in the video: YOU'RE the driver! i assume thom is your conscience, and YOU thought your actions were righteous, and suddenly you're the one running for your life. now death is knocking at your door, and you realize you've chosen the wrong path and now it's too late to go back. the oppressed man escapes, you're burning in hell (metaphorically), and thom disappears. don't put your conscience in the 'back seat'.

Oasis – Don't Look Back in Anger Lyrics 13 years ago
oasis didn't exactly steal it. john lennon immortalized it, and the C and D notes are definitely in 'imagine' in the same count as in the first bar in 'don't look back in anger', but oasis used a more simplified version of the notes, so they really cut it down. those 2 notes sound well together in this orientation, and all songwriters know this. when you undertake a song using the most famous riff ever, you'd better be up to the task. if it were justin beiber doing it, we'd go crazy, but it's OASIS! they're a kickass band, and this is a kickass song! even though it's the same sound, the flow of the song worked with lennon's notes opening up the first 5 seconds to give you a feel of how great this song was going to be, and it's AWESOME!

Oasis – Little By Little Lyrics 13 years ago
we the people who made you who you are. who else gives you everything you ever wanted. loving parents, god(s), rich spouses, true friends, entertainers! though giving usually assumes there are no strings attached, right? i think it's implied that someone took the other for granted. people commented about divorce, so maybe that's it. who knows but noel gallagher!

Oasis – Little By Little Lyrics 13 years ago
seems he's pondering existence in general. may just be a personal experience that inspired the song, but it masks the true question behind everyone's mind. we're born, we live, we die. while we live, what are we searching for? why did god (or whoever created us) design this circle of life? every action and reaction is part of this same cycle. to live, ask the question, and find the answer. every mystery has an answer. but ultimately, we all seek a perfect world. but if perfection is the answer, in reality, no one person is perfect, and no two people are the exact same.. so the fallacy is we feel pain so we may know true happiness. but is pure happiness having everyone be exactly the same and die side by side (living beings), or having one person left alone in the world and live forever (godly beings)? it still begs the question lol!!! it's like the saying, "what feels worse, being kicked in the balls, or punched in the boob?" now i feel like i'm rambling haha

The Offspring – Self Esteem Lyrics 13 years ago
i don't want to talk about what happens between boys and girls! say what you want, i suffer mild self esteem issues, but it's stemmed more from the fact that we as people are scared of what we can't see. the chorus (or lack thereof) speaks for us all. u don't need a punch line, just screaming out in pain says it all. we all get bottled up, so it's good to release the pressure it to a great song! we all get played, but we get over it eventually! offspring, you've been on repeat for 2 weeks now! WOOOO!

i think it's aloud. i think it would make more sense if he sang it,

a dream, a cry
a kiss, a smile

it just sounds nicer, and rhymes better.. the song is still great the way it is, and even if they had to rewrite it a million times, i wouldn't change it!

Green Day – Wake Me Up When September Ends Lyrics 14 years ago
i'm sure dozens of you have said this already, but i didn't read through 15 pages of posts. this song is dedicated to bille's father, who died in september when he was like 10. his father, who played jazz, bought him his first guitar, so of course billie misses his father, whom he wishes he could share with all his success in life. he wrote songs prior to his breakthrough career about his father, his mother, and his broken childhood. obviously, the music video is misleading. it had a lot to do with the soldiers in the middle east, which was more of a love story. it's a very big issue to green day, obviously, who oppose the war. as far as i know, it's not about 9/11, even though it was written near the 9/11 anniversary. an interesting note is that this song was dedicated to the hurricane katrina victims. i still remember when green day played this song on monday night football, when the saints played their first game back in the superdome at the season opener. it was a happy day for me, as well as for all americans. just a fyi in case you aren't a fan of both sports and music =P.

Green Day – American Idiot Lyrics 14 years ago
wow dude u act like this song came out before the war in the middle east. our soldiers are heroic, and i stand by them. i want revenge too. we're over there, and we should be. but the war is failing, and that means ppl aren't gonna vote for the man who failed to win it. not that anyone else would have imo. politics to musicians is voting against war, not picking sides of a war. btw, you don't take advice from musicians about politics, but you stand by alice cooper? lmao, i understand what you're saying 100%, but that's why you got rated -2.

i'm not antibush. i'm antiwar. i don't blame bush, but it's not green day's fault bush was bad at selling the war to americans and the rest of the world, even if it was for a better reason to keep me safe. green day isn't alone in that thought. but what else could bush do? he didn't want this war, but it definitely didn't work out in his favor. when our friends n family have to suffer at home and overseas, real americans are gonna blame bush, not corporate or political america. just like all wars, they define each presidency.

what is this "poppier" green day music you prefer? they're not politicians, they're pot-musicians! they're blaming the media for exactly why you don't like the song. the media is the center of anti-rock, n you want dontgiveashit music. even if the media controls america, the media doesn't control music, hence the 'american idiots' who feed into the media.

i know what you mean! green day is never gonna stop being them, n idthink this song is political. lately, they've had songs with political undertones, but hey, even if their music changes, n u can't exactly rock out like before which sucks, they're still the same pothead loving teens from the bay! maybe the 'green' stands for something else now?

Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics 14 years ago
i heard they wrote this song specifically for the 'american idiot' stage show finale. apparently, it holds a lot of meaning to the story, with a '21-gun salute'-like ending i suppose? idk i haven't seen or heard about the show. i still need to get this album. maybe i'll wait for a 2nd greatest hits..lol

Semisonic – Closing Time Lyrics 14 years ago
on a mainstream level, i know it's clear the song implies he leaves a bar, and even though he goes home alone, it was fun trying, and there's always a next time.

aside from the whole mainstream thing, whether it's about death, birth, fatherhood, or graduation, dan said it's about fatherhood, so we can all go from there.

i'm sure becoming a father is a great step in someone's life. i know it was for my dad, i'm a triplet! the metaphor to let daddy "take me home," is about his child-to-be. the new beginning is his child's life, the beginning's end was his life before fatherhood. it's a tough time for some fathers because you're excited and scared at the same time. the miracle of giving life is bring families together to make a new one. another new beginning and beginning's end. i guess a bar is kind of like that. it's excitement with the whole ambiance of it all, but scary because bars are notorious for having to leave memories behind (or taking new ones home). to sum it up, his future is unpredictable as well as vicarious with his child. or it could be that a bar seemed suitable metaphorically because where else would a man want to go to recollect his whole life's past before fatherhood. you just want to savor that feeling so you can comfortably move on the the next big step.

i think he began writing this song for himself, maybe about some girl, maybe about his baby-to-be, maybe both, but decided to please the listeners also and maybe give them a piece of what he truly felt without giving it all away. i always feel refreshed after hearing this song.

like most songs, i forget to think about the meaning of the song, and just take it for what it is, a classy tune! but it still feels good to know what it probably is all about! thanks everyone!
