This song from metallica decribes a lot of the shit i believe about the mind control prison system in which we live. Listen to what he says, its all mental thinking not a physical sanitarium you would first think. The system has you until people wake up and realize what it is so we can fight it. Open your eyes the world is not what it seems. He is describing when you dream the world is so at peace and it just feels right, not like the awake world were your under constant control and mind manipulation. This describes the matrix system and what it does to you. This song is about feeling the frustration of the prison system around you that sucks out your life force. You are but a mere slave in this system were we build the world for the governming elite rich. A system that sucks out your life force( vampire life drainers) by the secret destroyers (the illuminati) and for what misery, entrapment ,lies and follow forced false happiness ideals. We are under the illusion were free in this world. this quote explains this. Even though a lot of people know the world is corrupt they still play along in the system and even defend it because they have become so dependant on it. And they are right in a sense but remember things can always be changed if you try and change it. The government works for us and if you get enough people to see through them they will be overturned. This quote describes his anger and frustration with the world as he sees no way out of the cage (the system) and feels like a small harm and power less animal(rat) to the big controlling human . What this song is really describing if james realizes it or not is the real reality, or the Matrix. its about war but also a mind war. The invisable mind prison we are in. Not one person on this planet has experienced true freedom because of this system in place. When you truly question this world you will see things are not what they seem and we are all in a complete state of confusion. We have lost touch with who we really are and james heitfield describes this in this quote.
