The Beatles – The Fool on the Hill Lyrics 12 years ago
I felt like elaborating on my interpretation. It's actually very similar to what others seem to hear in the song.

Others see the fool on the hill as a wise or enlightened person -- someone who does something meaningful with their life.

The key to enlightenment is identifying with your consciousness -- your eternal being.

Unfortunately, most people never become aware of their actual being and instead identify with their mind. The mind -- that voice in our head -- builds an ego based on the past and hopes for fulfillment in the future. It avoids being present in the here and now, which is the realm of consciousness.

Read some Eckhart Tolle books, if you want to know more.

The Beatles – The Fool on the Hill Lyrics 12 years ago
The fool on the hill is your consciousness.
The man of a thousand voices is your mind.
This song is about their relationship and how they see each other.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Slow Cheetah Lyrics 12 years ago
RHCP is amazing... my favorite band of all time.

I agree with tesseract... this song is about death and death is the slow cheetah.
The first time I heard this song it made me think of my own mortality.

I think it is Anthony's way of describing death in a Native American way. The cheetah is an inescapable predetor, but death is slow from the sense that it takes a whole lifetime to catch you. It starts from the day you are born but is inevitable... so know that and make the most of the time you have... don't waste it!

The Cure – Close to Me Lyrics 14 years ago
To me this song is a perfect description of Jesus Christ on the night of his arrest in Gethsemane (the garden on the Mount of Olives). Before you decide I'm off-the-wall, go read Mathew 26:36-49 and watch the first 10 minutes of the Passion of The Christ (or read the whole gospel and watch the whole movie, if you want a more powerful experience).

In general, this describes anyone who knows their fate and still has the courage to stand and accept it. I think there are only a rare few individuals in history like this. I can only think of two off hand. One, of course, is Jesus and the other is Martin Luther King Jr. Based on his later speeches, I think MLK knew his fate as well and still pressed on.

What a wonderful, yet horrifying position to find yourself in, truly knowing God's will and your fate.
We all want to know our purpose, but how many of us really have the courage to fulfill it?
