The single mom with child is thinking of settling for the dull superficial car salesman, but he is trying to convince this extraordinary woman from settling for a life of doldrums and to come away with him to a life that promises of adventure and excitement more worthy of her beauty and brillance. |

I think he is addressing a single mom that is dealing with the intense responsibility of raising a child on her own. She is dealing with the doldrums of having to grow up too quickly. "Born to multiply" refers to the girl who gives herself away and has to deal with the consequences while the loser bolts the scene. The songwriter is trying to cheer her up and tell her not to give up on life. Apparently she is dating an "ordinary Joe" and he is trying to convince her to abandon conventional wisdom and come with him on a life of adventure. "So give me your hand and let's jump out the window." |
