Swans – Beautiful Child Lyrics 13 years ago
What imagery? Besides holding a crying child? Admittedly, I haven't read the book, but this strikes me as being about abortion.

Cop Shoot Cop – Hung Again Lyrics 14 years ago
Does anyone know what the Williamsburg is? Is it a river? A bar? A city? A car? I was guessing river, but that only vaguely makes sense.

Firewater – Caroline Lyrics 14 years ago
Written about a girl, Caroline. Considering the line "Caroline on the bridge" and the lines following it, I'd imagine she committed suicide, and this has devastated the speaker.

Firewater – Mr. Cardiac Lyrics 14 years ago
Probably one of Firewater's less obvious songs. It seems to be written from the perspective of a woman who uses sex appeal to get money from men. It's possible that this could be about an ex of Tod's, but I think it's more a song written in jest. Chameleon Man is a reference to a Cop Shoot Cop song, Tod's previous band. OP spelled "succubus" wrong in the lyrics. A Frigidaire would be a specific brand of refrigerator; there's possibly a deeper meaning to that line, but I'd say the point is that she's trying to say she isn't cold and mechanical, and of course she isn't; she's a hot, predatory creature. Ticker tape was an earlier form of communications, used to transmit stock info, so besides being a pun for a further cardiac reference (ticker = heart), it's also a reference to her interest in getting money unfairly, ie not doing any work but just getting it from her men. I still don't understand the references to hearts, though. Is it an appeal to romance? Meh.

Firewater – The Circus Lyrics 14 years ago
Like Cop Shoot Cop's "The Divorce", it's a story told through music. I agree with n00dles about it being about rape, and contrary to the lyrics given, it's not a killer speaking; he tells her to walk lightly ("Step you lightly now / We must keep our voices down"), meaning she is still alive and now being brought back to where-ever by him. Considering the way it ends, she's probably really fucked up, and no longer knows if she's in a forest or city, and if that's thunder or a train.

Cop Shoot Cop – Coldest Day Of The Year Lyrics 14 years ago
Definitely about suicide. The first line is a justification of sorts for it; a month of Mondays would be a horribly banal month. The repetitions of "carbon monoxide" later on, and the references to a tube in the window, lead me to believe he literally asphyxiated his fears in his apartment, or something to that effect. He was apparently a self-medicating drunk, and the "rock to let off tension" might very well be a drug reference; if not, that line escapes me.

Cop Shoot Cop – Robert Tilton Handjob Lyrics 14 years ago
Robert Tilton was an American televangelist who got caught for tax infringement; it turns out that his megachurch accepted donations but his lackeys were ordered to toss out the prayers for help without reading them.

In the first stanza, it's "Think I can understand", I think. I'm admittedly a bit shaky on that line.

In the second stanza, it's "But you're a man of God".

Admittedly, both are very minor changes, and I could be wrong on the first one, but I felt the need to share.

Cop Shoot Cop – Discount Rebellion Lyrics 14 years ago
Like "Corporate Protopop", this is a criticism of American consumerism and contemporary living. People buy shit they don't need and don't think about the things that might affect them, like the world events mentioned in the lyrics.

Cop Shoot Cop – Corporate Protopop Lyrics 14 years ago
A spoken-word satire of American consumerism. This is a pretty blunt track, I think.

"Caliapy" is actually spelled "Calliope"; it's the Greek goddess of music and poetry.

Firewater – Black Box Recording Lyrics 14 years ago
The first line has two meanings: it refers to the plane falling from the sky, and a a "fall from grace". Considering the following two lines, I'd say it's because of a lack of faith. Black Box Recording is about someone like Lucifer who sins and falls away from God, out of the heavens. The rest of the song describes the incident and gives a bit of information about the narrator, like that he owes money and smokes. The song ends with death, and not really wanting to be alive, either though the sun isn't shining on the narrator.
