The parts you have written out as "Breathing" should read, "Syncopated breathing". The "No one, no one / Can take you back" should be "No one, no one / Can take it away". |

| In this context, it's a pun. Yes, it refers to a gay person's death, and she illustrates people's cold reactions with the paralleled pun of a burnt out cigarette. "Just another dead fag to you, that's all / Just another light missing / on a long taxi ride..." She's saying that the death of this gay friend meant no more to these people than a burnt out cigarette. | |

"There's nothing that we've done that could be wrong / It's the only way we'll ever understand" I think this line is such a powerful statement on the human tendency to make excuses for ourselves to cancel out feelings of guilt or regret. We can't process the feeling, so we absolve ourselves instead. |

Thanks for posting the additional lyrics! Grammatically, the third and fourth lines should be changed from "I would of been" to "I would have been." The kind of pet peeves a B.A. in English gives you... :-P Such a beautiful, epic song about a relationship ended too soon. "I'll give you everything that you need / If you want my blood, let me bleed / If you want a ghost, then that's what I'll be." The pain of still wanting to be that person's everything after they've decided they've moved on is so real. I'm intrigued by the subtle religious references in the baptism imagery and the line "If you remain in me / I will remain in you." May have been unintentional, but grabbed me just the same. |
