yeh it's 'you can't normalise' i think. i think the song is about only having one chance to make it big, to have your fifteen minutes, and if you make it big, it really will only be short lived and then you're faced with the personal struggle of accepting normality again. |

perhaps a guy in a relationship inwhich he is far to possesive, he needs her spoken reasurrance that she won't defy him, most likely cheat on him. she's manipulated by him or loves him to much to leave. he finds it hard to forgive her actions but his possesive nature is surely just as bad, perhaps he finds he has to watch her and be so possesive as to stop her doing him wrong, but likely this posessive nature gives her reason to betray him. maybe the relationship ends around half way through the song but he remains strong in the promises they made and that he is just as posessive as a friend than as a boyfriend and so she continues to dettach herself from him |

Last chance to make believe in always and all it seems -always and all,eg true love and pretending that he's found it Train wrecks hide underneath your umbrella - maybe that as you'd use an umbrella to sheild yourself from the rain what lyes beneath her umbrella is much worse than the rain itself - he's in a messed up relationship with her, but without her he wouldn't so much be better off and would still be stood in the rain Accept a frame - a picture, a dream in your head, what you want from life, but to accept it is almost as if someone else has thought it up for you and you've just gotta roll with it Tired symphonies play down on -tired symphonies like the dead excuses, and lonesome lies, just over rated and over used praise to her, 'you're everything to me' sorta stuff. but it's all a part of the appearance he wants to give her, that he's giving her the world 'Lovers with dead excuse' - they're in love but expressing it has become more a technicality, theres nothing new to compliment or anything to give reason for the love and in saying the reasons they're together are 'excuses' he doesnt really even wanna be with her, he's just riding it out. with her for the sake of being with someone Blur the line with soul abuse - the line being whether or not he loves her, that he blurs and needlessly complicates with all his 'dead excuses' Lonesome hearts just have no use right here - (i could swear it was 'my lonesome lies just have no use around here') and if so it might be the lies/dead excuses arent appreciated or recognised anyway so he doesn't know why he bothers (if this is the case it could just as easily be lonesome lines) however he does it anyway because again, it's all a part of giving her the world The new skin holds us in As the old skin turns us on - maybe their relationship before and after, the new skin being the time they've been together that holds them together, but the old skin is the girl and guy as they were when they first fell in love, and they both wish their partner were more like they used to be And I wouldn't change a thing oh no No, I wouldn't change a thing About the way you are - despite seeing so many faults with their relationship, he wouldnt tell her, and wouldnt ask her to change, things are how they are and all he can do is hope for change, but i'd imagine in her eyes he needs to do the same and so he says fuck it , let me give the world to you - the world he's able to provide, the dead excuses and the appearance of 'love', aslong as she's happy he doesn't mind continung as things are because for her to be happy is what he wants more than anything |

I think it is about an imperfect relationship too. However i dont think he is 'unsure.' I think he knows he's in a relationship with problems, yet just rides them out. He puts up with it for reasons beyond him, and so when he looks at her not only is he unsure as to how he should feel towards her, but towards himself also in putting up with her as he once again stares into a face that he knows will turn and walk away. She's unaware of the damage she causes, despite being the one causing it - in his eyes anyway as he's the one 'looking' at her, we're not given her perspective. The wall of sound, the howling, repeptitive sequences and lyrics represent his 'riding it out' his repetitive, hollow routine with her, to sleep, see her, leave her, sleep and await to see her again. Always thinking about her, and always weighing the pros and cons in his head. I think he's afraid to lose her, he depends on her and uses the 'and you make me laugh' as a general image of fun with her -to convince himself that theres some good in her and the relationship, and that there's reason to stick with it. this is only my opinion x |

one of my favourate songs, i read a poem recently called 'lyme regis - golden cap' by Anne Ridler which helped me make sence of this song alittle. Well, maybe :P i think it might be about birth, life, death and rebirth. the birth from the egg 'breathe' and being free from the egg into the sea, then death 'return' and 'ashes to sea' being reborn as the salt of the sea, but i beleive this is only an image for the nautilus being free of form, a spirit free to roam the far reaches, to horizon. |
