@[CopperForever:12384] It could be possible that the Beatles knew about Susan from Dennis Wilson? There is a book you can get on Amazon for Kindle called Beatles to Manson Kindle Edition
by Alex Durig, which explains the theory.

Flash And The Pan – Hey St. Peter Lyrics 9 years ago
I am going to guess Hey St. Peter has something to do with drugs because of the line " The stranger couldn't pay the bill". Because of the line " Sang a song, now he's back in the game" the song may have something to do with trying to get into show business in New York. But, it does not say what is wrong with being in New York, other then "money was kind of low." I heard about a case of singers trying to make in Nashville and the paid money to be listed in a magazine called Cash Box. I wondered if maybe this was a similar thing, but in New York. Maybe Billy is a singer trying to make it in New York? The money was kind of low and could not pay the bill could mean Billy is running out of money to pay the promoters to push his songs. The Cash Box Murder happened after this song was written however, so it can't be related to the incident at Cash Box Magazine. The lyrics are very vague. I found the video on You Tube, and I did not like it. It did not bring any new meaning to light. The only part that was watchable was when the two guys were singing the song on a microphone, but they were probably lip syncing. If someone has insider information from the group Flash in the Pan, which by the way has a connection to Angus Young of AC/DC, I would like to know what this songs means, and what they were thinking when they wrote the song and made the video.

Skee-Lo – I Wish Lyrics 9 years ago
I knew this song when it came out, and I heard it again on the radio and I always thought he said, I wish I was a father, instead of baller, because I could not figure that out. Baller came to later mean some kind of high roller. But, I don't think it did back then. I never could look up this song on the internet at the time. But, I thought it was a weird off beat song, that was refreshing compared to all the bragging song in rap. Now reminds of Kid Cudi song's Day and Night, because the character is sort of lamenting. Also I don't know why the whistling sound goes off when he sings the chorus. It may mean that the audience is so impressed they are whistling like wo whew? I am not sure I like the whistling. It seems like over kill because there is a lot going on in the mix to throw in the whistling makes the song more crowded.
The part of about the rabbit in the hat just means he is talking about wanting more things. I don't think it has a hidden meaning. If he was pulling a rabbit out of hat, it could impress. Just thought this song was kind of neat the way I thought it meant. It stood out as different.

Fleetwood Mac – Silver Heels Lyrics 9 years ago
How would you compare this song to Those Shoes those by the Eagles? This song is about not wanting her to change and those songs is about disapproving of her. She either a high priced call girl or a drug dealer or both. "She hypnotized my eyes with her silver heeled ways” seems to apply she gave him drugs that got him high.

Cathy Smith who killed John Belushi March 5, 1982 was known as Silverbag because she sold drugs out of a silver pursue.

The Idle Race – Skeleton and the Roundabout Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is not a bad song musically, but has the worst lyrics of any song, since seasons in the sun. I read here on song meanings someone thought the song was about a Skeleton going back and forth in my round about. Well, what is a round about, like a box or something, no as it turns out it's like a merry go round and some guy is turning it with his arm and the Skeleton is only mentioned one time and it's not a Skeleton going around a round about at all as the title suggests. This song could have been a big hit if it had better lyrics.

The Alan Parsons Project – Eye In The Sky Lyrics 10 years ago
I think it sounds like the camera is telling him to stop lying to himself because he can't win at the Casino. That is why it sounds like a relationship song. When I first heard it for years I thought it was a song to a girl, but when I really studied it, I thought no, he is trying to talk himself out of his gambling by saying the camera can read his mind and so he can't beat the house. That why it sounds so discouraging.

Talking Heads – Swamp Lyrics 10 years ago
There are lot of drug references in this song:

Swamp is about a drug dealer who is the devil, or just an evil person tempting people with any drug they want, got anything you want, dust (Angel Dust) Rocks (rock of crack cocaine)

Then no to say, the whole thing is over (he got caught and he can't sell anymore)

The Risky Business of selling drugs

Risky Business was movie from 1983, and this song came out in 1983, I thought it should be part of the movie. It could be a reference to the movie, I don't know if one influenced the other in some way.

When your hands get dirty (you get arrested for selling drugs or using)
Nobody knows you at all (nobody helps you, wants to know you anymore)

Don't have a window to slip out of (someone wants to get away from either the police or other drug dealers)

The blood and the mess is the murder of someone by drug dealers who was another drug dealer in their territory or else someone who did not pay their drug bill.
The beauties are black beauties, that is a old slang name for a pill, and swallow you up, you swallow them and they swallow you, ruin your life.

Touch monkey, monkey a slang term for the monkey on your back, for your habit

Billy Joel – Uptown Girl Lyrics 10 years ago
I read that going downtown means scoring heroin and uptown means cocaine. Then I thought about this song, where it goes "she's looking for a downtown man" that could mean a drug dealer to sell her heroin. This is probably not what Billy Joel meant at all in this song. I just thought it was an interesting concept of downtown and uptown. Downtown being somewhat dirty and gritty and Cocaine being expensive so it is uptown, a high class drug. The girl is tired of Cocaine and now she is looking for some heroin to help her calm down.

Steely Dan – Daddy Don't Live In That New York City No More Lyrics 10 years ago
I don't see it as being a song about a pimp. You can think that if you want, but if steely dan wanted to make it about a pimp, they could have added something more clear and I don't see him as being Cuban or what have you, he could be white or black. The piece is a gun, that he is hiding there in case he needs to gun to shot someone. Clearly he is some kind of criminal, but mostly he is an alcoholic. Sunday on a Saturday means drinking all Saturday night until Sunday morning. I think you are reading too much into it. Lucy could be a girl friend of his or even his daughter.

The part about speed inside my brain is about doing speed. The album is called machine head, this refers to a speed influenced record. Consider Motorhead means you did speed and your head/brain is like a motor, so machine head, pretty close.

Shyne – Bad Boyz Lyrics 10 years ago
For years I thought the Andrew Cunanan reference meant he was pro Andrew Cunanan because Andrew Cunanan was a serial killer who killed Gianni Versace. But, when I study the lyrics I think maybe he is called the other rappers (with your gay raps) as being like Andrew Cunanan. This theory also does not make sense as the point is not to suggest your rivals are powerful killers. So, it is really a question that needs to be figured out. I can't understand the lyrics very well, so one just kind of listens along and certain words stand out from the over all mass of rap and and one of them is Andrew Cunanan. But,there are many other great lines in this song. He raps along and then it builds up to a climax every few lines with the "punch lines" of the dialogues. It is a series of insults that finish with knock out punches. I loved this song from the moment I first heard it on the radio.

Infected Mushroom – Becoming Insane Lyrics 10 years ago
This is a song about the liberating feeling the singer gets when he becomes insane. It was too hard to hang on the reality, so the song is joyous and he is laughing and happy in the way that insane people sometimes laugh at things that are not funny to anyone else. Consider the laughing in the song the dark side of moon, aka Eclipse by Pink Floyd. But, maybe it just about an acid trip and he is going to come down afterwards and be normal. It is not really possible to tell if it about a drug trip or not.

Jim Stafford – Spiders and Snakes Lyrics 10 years ago
This song is about a boy who is too young to be serious about a relationship. The girl is more mature and she wants him to move the physical part of the relationship. He still thinks it would be fun to put a frog down her dress because he is immature, but she convinces him to grow up.

Billy Idol – White Wedding Lyrics 11 years ago
The exploding kitchen represents that what you think is safe being a housewife is not what it is supposed to be. Her life once she is married, her life won’t be all peaches and cream, so he is lamenting the fact she is getting married or just got married, “What have you done?!” Instead of happy she will be bored, unfilled and unhappy in her married life. Maybe her husband will drink and beat her? Maybe she will start drinking? Maybe she or her husband will have affairs? The whole marriage thing is a joke, and the song is poking fun at it. He is so upset he crashes his bike through the glass to tell her that her dreams will be shattered or just at make a statement on the eve of her wedding.

Berlin – The Metro Lyrics 11 years ago
I think it is about the soldier was killed in the war and she got his last letter, that said, I love you always. I used to think it was about a girl that was dumped by her boyfriend, but I change my mind as I got older. She was mad that he made love to her and then went to war and got killed, not that she was dumped. (hating you for loving me)

Talking Heads – Listening Wind Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is about a Native American who is sending a bomb package to an American Man. "He waits for news in quiet way." He waits to hear if the man is dead from the bomb. The motivation is the damage done to the tribal homelands. "He sees the foreigners in growing numbers. He sees the foreigners in fancy houses." He asks the wind to drive them away, to make them go back to the old world. The wind is listening to what he is thinking. That is why it is called the Listening Wind. It is like a prayer he is making to the Wind or the Great Spirit of his religion.

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Lookin' Out My Back Door Lyrics 12 years ago
Thank you for taking the time to write a thoughtful reply. I am sorry, that some people here are rude. Your ideas are interesting. I think the songs is about drugs. When I come home and look out my back door, I don't see fantastic stuff, because I am not taking drugs. The song is about all the fantastic things you can see if you take drugs. The happy dancing bears of the grateful dead. The creatures are dancing on the lawn. How could the song be not about drugs?

Tom Tom Club – Who Wants an Ugly Girl? Lyrics 12 years ago
A catchy song with depressing lyrics. If she is sexy then she can't be ugly, so the lyrics don't even make sense. It could be about a girl who is not ugly, but thinks she is ugly. This could have been a bigger hit with better lyrics.

Tom Tom Club – Bamboo Town Lyrics 12 years ago
After viewing the lyrics I think it could be a song written for Tina's drug dealer. Grace Jones wrote a song for her house keeper Chan hitchhikes to Shanghai, which has a similar oriental theme. The song reminds me of Never Let Down Again by Depeche Mode, but the song is not as profound. The entire album was never released to CD, and this is one of the best songs on Close to the Bone. They should remaster Close to the Bone and put it on ITunes. The entire album Close to the Bone has a drug sort of theme.

Adam Ant – Mohair Lockeroom Pinup Boys Lyrics 12 years ago
This is a song about drugs in a ziplock bag. It says zipline bag. The song starts out with meantions of H C and Mary, drug references. But, on the surface it appears to be just another song by Adam Ant about how good looking and fantastic he and all his friends are, the Mohair Lock Room Pin Up Boys.

Talking Heads – Warning Sign Lyrics 12 years ago
Your interpretation made me think of, what I think the songs means. The psycho killer from the song "Psycho Killer" is in the hotel room with the prostitute.
"I've got money now, C'mon baby"
He hears the warning sign that he is going to kill her.
"It happened before, it will happen again"
He tells her
"Take it easy, take it easy, It's a natural thing and you have to relax."
He kills her
"Your glassy eyes and your open mouth"
I just wonder why the theme of psycho killers runs so strongly in these songs. I would not like to see David Byrne go the way of Phil Spector. Phil Spector apparently want to kill someone for fun. He was always waving his gun around. But, his music is never about killing people.

Danzig – Am I Demon Lyrics 13 years ago
I think Danzig is wondering if he is a demon or a human when he wrote the song. This could be caused by a mental state of mind or by excessive use of drugs and parting too much, and staying up for many days until one's mind begins to become unglued. I don't think he is saying he is a bad ass in this song. I think his question is sincere, and then maybe he made it into a great lyric, later one, after recovering his senses. But, I could be wrong. Maybe he never felt that way, and he just wanted to have some thought provoking lyrics. The demonic theme fits the tone of the piece.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 14 years ago
There are too many replies to read all of them. Most of the replies do not discuss the meaning of the song, but instead debate whether the song is a good song or not. I always thought the song was about the pressure Kurt felt to perform. "Here we are now, entertain us" is the only part I could hear clearly, and understand without reading a lyric sheet. The fans are waiting for the band to entertain them, and this is pressure for Kurt.
