Morphine – Take Me With You Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm just now discovering this band (always was about a decade late). The lyrics, the music...it all clicks. They're original and great. This song is pretty obvious. It's about being in the bad place. In the twisted up mess we all get into sometimes. Wanting to help but not even able to help ourselves. A mutual wish to just go.

Katie Herzig – Forevermore Lyrics 13 years ago
This makes me happy. Which is saying something because I was really down about the holidays. Excuse me, I got an apple tree to climb.

Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood Lyrics 13 years ago
One of the very few modern raps, along with some from Spearhead, that has real quality. That I really like.

Tom Waits – Emotional Weather Report Lyrics 13 years ago
It's just a pseudo-beatnik poem about weather both literally and abstract. It's great, just like most Waits stuff.

Sting – The Book Of My Life Lyrics 13 years ago
This song reminds me of "Digging in the Dirt" by Peter Gabriel.

Sting – The Book Of My Life Lyrics 13 years ago
Well, I'm not looking to argue but I just listened to the song closely, three times (beautiful song, both lyrically and musically, he just keeps getting better and better). Sting tends to sing pretty clearly and yes, these ARE the right lyrics above. Word for word except for maybe one minor place.

Johnny Cash – Rusty Cage Lyrics 13 years ago
I love Soundgarden but as with so many other songs Cash has borrowed, he made this his own all the way. Thanks Johnny.

Tom Waits – What's He Building in There? Lyrics 13 years ago
This is more one of his creepy-cool story-songs. Not so much a musical pursuit. He's a lot like Bowie in the sense that he's more of an artist who plays music, not a musician that is artistic. His music is very cool, but you've got to have an open mind, he's nothing near mainstream in his style. He likes a lot of strange percussion, horns and uses a rough voice most of the time. Almost all of his songs have GREAT lines and in general good lyrics. I'd recommend just going to youtube and typing in Tom Waits, checking out some of his stuff (the non-live stuff is easier to digest, FYI).

Jack Off Jill – I Touch Myself Lyrics 14 years ago
Nowhere on iTunes does it say anything about Jack Off Jill doing this song, which is a shame, it was kinda hot thinking so.

Veruca Salt – Somebody Lyrics 14 years ago
They just made a different version, Rusty. Both versions are very cool, but very different.

Depeche Mode – Somebody Lyrics 14 years ago
When I heard this song a few years back, it was like someone hitting me deep inside with the biggest epiphany I'd ever known. The words definitely, they count in a big way, but the music just as much.

And at the risk of offending Depeche Mode fans out there (of which I'm one of them)...the band called Veruca Salt does a cover that is just as good. They bring an entirely different feel to it.

Poe – Could've Gone Mad Lyrics 14 years ago
PS: The actual title of this song is called "Could've Gone Mad", if you try to look for it.

Poe – Could've Gone Mad Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a really beautiful love song. As with most of Poe's music, very much overlooked by the mainstream.

Foo Fighters – Walking After You Lyrics 14 years ago
This is one of those songs...self-explanatory, there's no hidden message...that you really have to hear the music to, to really appreciate. It's beautiful in a simple way regardless but the music brings it home.

Filter – Thanks Bro Lyrics 14 years ago
Kinda doubt it, James. Filter is going a hell of a lot better than Patrick's career. =)

Filter – Thanks Bro Lyrics 14 years ago
It's on the X Files: Songs in the Key of X soundtrack. Good album, good song.

Garbage – #1 Crush Lyrics 14 years ago
It's pretty straight forward.

There is like, there is love, there is deep need.

This is a song about the be-all, end-all love affair that goes deep into obsession. She literally can't live without this person and would give...anything...for them to know and return this feeling.

Sarah McLachlan – Building A Mystery Lyrics 14 years ago
One of two songs I've had dedicated to me. This one took awhile to sink in, both the good and the bad.

As to the meaning...it's about a man she's fascinated by. One who lives mostly in his own world, yet invites her in as much as he's able. A place that at first seems strange and dark but shows it's beautiful side once she's allowed to see it all.

Jack Johnson – Brushfire Fairytales Lyrics 14 years ago
It's a fairly simple message, but with a few other undertones of other things (like most of Jack's songs).

To sit back, relax and look at things as they really are. To stop thinking so much and let them happen, to experience them instead of getting bogged down by overthinking a situation and forgetting to enjoy it.

However...he's also a filmmaker and is showing praise for a simpler time in cinema when expression was more elemental. Silent films didn't need (didn't have the option) of being complicated. They made do with the simple tools at hand and often made a better film and told a better story because of it.

Louis Armstrong – A Kiss To Build A Dream On Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't care what music you like, or how old you are...Louis Armstrong is classic and will never go out of style. This song is one of his best, I agree with catherineks.

An interesting little side note: Louis Armstrong, in his declining years, made #1 on the song charts with "Hello Dolly". This is impressive because four kids from England had just hit the charts and were blowing away everyone with their music. Satchmo (Satchelmouth. Armstrong) beat them out of the #1 slot. Those kids were the Beatles.

The Ink Spots – I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire Lyrics 14 years ago
There are so many old songs that really are works of art. The lyrics to this one included. Too many scoff because they are old, but I don't know why. Half the stuff I listen to is much older than I am. There was a special magic to some of the songs back when.

Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit Lyrics 14 years ago
One of the all-time, best songs ever. It's only problem is it's too short. Thanks Grace Slick.

Schoolhouse Rock – Conjunction Junction Lyrics 14 years ago
This brings back so many memories. I grew up on Schoolhouse Rock. In a lot of ways, it was more instructive than going to regular school.

The 90's album they made of cover songs of this was great too.
