Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip – Great Britain Lyrics 14 years ago
Love this song, this is how I feel about Great Britain. I love our history, sporting prowess, literature, music and art but am always reminded of gun/knife crime on the news. Great Britain will never be "great" again until we get rid of these poorly brought up kids and gangster culture that is poisoning the country.

Blur – This Is a Low Lyrics 14 years ago
Given that Parklife is about an ever decreasing English-ness being replaced by a more American model in the country, I'd say that this song was just further emphasising the point. You've got songs like Parklife which celebrates the British way and then this song, the penultimate one on the record starting with the lyric "And into the sea goes pretty England and me". People go about their daily lives as usual, experiencing this "low" point but there's nothing we can do about it.

Blur – Song 2 Lyrics 14 years ago
This was apparently a song in which Damon "never really finished the lyrics" which I think we can safely agree on! Apparently the band just went with how they did it first time and the song is more a release of energy and expression than one which carries any significant meaning.

Blur – The Universal Lyrics 14 years ago
Everyone mentioning the National Lottery is spot on. Damon has said himself that the song is in fact about the lottery and his belief that it was a bad thing. The song is basically predicting his, our and in turn the whole country's downfall due to people believing everything they hear such as "tomorrow's your lucky day" and becoming motivated by the most impossible and unlikely dreams. The lyrics can be said to be prophetic in where British culture was going at the time, so I think people mentioning New Labour have a point, even if the song wasn't strictly political.
