Let's get one thing straight, this song is certainly not about breaking up; I'd say it's not about "moving on" either.. But it is. Not in the sense that they're moving on from each other, as a few have suggested above, but they're moving on TOGETHER. LinguisticChick's translation I'd say is the most accurate so far, but it's limited in that it's simply a translation. There are a number of interpretations to this song and each with their own basket of meanings personal to each listener/reader. I see the interpretation to the song being one similar to VioletHateBlue and No12Will's ideas of moving to a new place or from a current place that has become boring. The lights still in their eyes - good memories, but they have to move on, they've outgrown the fairground.. Wahey.. No one else saw that ?! It's in the name of the song for a reason. Maybe they were young when they got together or fell in love.. But alas, they're too old for that now, the act is repetitive, the dream is getting cold.. Boredom. They're growing out of it.. The rides don't do it anymore.. Once again, they're 'too old for it'.. They know they need to move on to bigger things.. This place used to gleam.. Hopeful dreams.. When they were younger they saw themselves staying in this town forever.. But the spark's gone.. Cold. They're reaching for the stars.. Bigger, brighter.. Providing the new gleam as they move on to a better place.. Keep warm til the day.. The new place providing the heat where the old place was getting cold. We'll head south.. Simple translation here.. The winter's coming down on their relationship.. The boredom of their town.. Do they head south as the birds do when winter comes.. Searching for a warmer place.. To call home. Running naked through the snow (cold), towards the sun (warm), once again.. Like the migrating birds do. The important thing here is that they're not breaking up, they love each other and they're moving on together to experience new things together. Further to No12Will's point.. BINGO ! they left home to go to the fairground in search for fun, they got it ! Then got bored, now they're going home as fast as they can, before the relationship suffers as the fun did.. Turn cold, lose the gleam. That's my interpretation of the translation, but I have my own meaning that I take from the song, given my own experiences in life and what I'm going through right now.. But I won't bore you lot with it. |

Nope. It's not about convincing, it's not about feeling anything is falling apart. It's about two people who are perfect for each other (friends from outer space), two people who should be together, but they never stepped up, never initiated anything physical, only words. They were waiting and waiting.. possible for the other to do something, but neither of them did. 'words aren't warm enough', it was all words, nothing more, nothing physical once again. They had the love for each other, but not the balls to get it out in the open. They just kept beating around the bush. 'I know you can't be mine, by the way you've always been' - maybe she's so bloody shy that she s**ts herself whenever an opportunity to step it up comes along, or maybe that's her excuse for not going for it. Either way he loves her, always will, and it's her personality, her nature that perhaps holds them back. Nevertheless, it's not all her fault, it's the fact that neither of them had the balls to step it up, that a relationship never materialised: 'afraid to let go' .. let go and fall in love. I'd say there's still a chance, if she's strong enough to hold on, but she's probably too scared.. it's easier for her to just slip back into the 'bubble' |

"I am as vain as I allow I do my hair, I gloss my eyes I touch myself all through the night" Whilst earlier in the song "I touch myself", refers to masturbation. At this point, the meaning switches to "touching herself up", hair, dress, make-up. This is further highlighted in the following: "And when something falls out of place I take my time, I put it back I touch myself 'till I'm on track" "Something falls out of place" - her hair, or perhaps the penis that some would believe she has (joking). "I take my time, I put it back" - self-explanatory... hair etc. "I touch myself 'til (one 'L' not two, we're not talking about a cash till here), I'm on track" - she touches her hair etc. to put it back into place. This all refers to the vanity she aforementioned. |

theblush is probably right on the breakdown of the song, but this isn't really a place to air personal opinions because some people probably dont like it at all. But if we're going to go at it then... I'm guessing theblush has limited relationship experience, one boyfriend ? Relatively long term and maybe long distance towards the end of the relationship. Looking for a new boyfriend since ? Desperate to find one at first ? Perhaps did ? Didn't work. Learnt a lesson. Soulmate came along... but you didnt know it, just liked him... wanted to be with him but never made the first move, always relied on him moving first. He probably tried a couple of times... inviting you to the cinema... but you're scared... so brushed it off. This pissed him off. Then after a series of weeks, maybe two months you spend time together in a forced environment... became close, wanted him again... but by this point he was pissed off with your lack of effort and decided unless you talk first, he ain't going to bother. You didn't talk... nor did he. Finally started talking again somehow... wasn't the same. He still loves you but he's pissed off at the fact that you loved him at one point but just like a switch you appear not to anymore. Which drives him mad because whilst love is something you can turn on easily, it's not something you can just switch off like that... he lovesyou and hates you right now. |
