Lana Del Rey – Put Me in a Movie Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is representative of all the young girls who've convinced themselves that they are born to be stars and so give up everything, pack their bags (just a few things. They'll have plenty of money to buy more when they make it 'big'), leave home, and then set sail for Hollywood only to be met with disappointment and then left with a few options: go home, pursue some other life, or sleep your way into roles. Though this is the story of a lot of young girls, for the sake of interpretation I'm going to type in singular terms.

So a girl leaves home for Hollywood 'cause she knows in her heart she's gonna make it big or at least has a really good chance. Reality soon hits hard, though, as she gets doors slammed in her face again and again and again. Not wanting to return home either because she knows she has nothing there for her except maybe a boring life filled with boring people or because she doesn't want to return defeated and not the big actress she promised everyone she was gonna be, she swallows her dignity and begins sleeping with numerous directors and influential people in return for roles in movies.

"Lights, camera, acción...
If he likes me takes me home…”

She's auditioning for a director, thinking to herself "if he fancies me pretty enough, he just might take me to his place, sleep with me, then give me this role to compensate."

“Come on, you know you like (doo!) little girls…”

She’s coaxing the director into sleeping with her, tempting him with her youth.

“You can be my daddy...”

She’s now letting him know that she’s ready to submit herself entirely to his will. He can whatever he pleases with her. She’ll be a ‘good little girl’ and he can be the ‘daddy’. I also think she’s hoping for someone to look after her, that is, get her the roles she wants.

“Lights, camera, acción...
He didn't know he'd have this much fun….”

So he takes the bait and decides to sleep with her. She relishes in the fact he’s enjoying himself as she satisfies him with sexual favours. She takes delight in this little victory of pleasuring him as it’s one step closer to maybe landing the role she wants. “Bet he didn’t think he’d enjoy me this much. Maybe now he’ll give me that role.”

“Come on, you know you like (doo!) little girls….”

Similar meaning as before, only this time the girl and the director are in bed together. She’s telling him, “You know you like this. You know you love screwing me. I’m young and beautiful. You know you like this.”

“You can be my daddy…”

Again, at this point I think she’s just hoping for someone to look after her and make sure she gets the roles she wants.

“You're my little sparkle, jump-rope queen,
You're my little sparkle…”

This is the first and only time we’re hearing the voice of the director who’s teasing her with fond (but ridiculous) pet-names during sex. Or maybe this is a developing relationship and that’s just the name he gives her.

“Lights, camera, acción...
You know I can't make it on my own.”

The girl is speaking once again pleading with the director to help her make it big and become a star and give her the role she needs. I took this as the conversation they had after the sex, but I suppose it could also be the conversation that pops up in their developing relationship.

“Put me in a movie (come on, you know you like little girls)...”

She’s finally telling him point-blank to just put her in a movie now that she’s done him that favour of sleeping with him. “Come on, you know I made you happy. I satisfied you with my young body. Now give me what I want. I wanna be a star.”

“You can be my daddy…”

And that’s my interpretation! Granted, I think it’s the most obvious way to interpret it. It may have some deeper point that I’m just missing. But that’s what this websites for, I guess! Can’t wait to see others take on this song. :)
Also! I don’t think “Acción” (Spanish for ‘Action’) hold any significance to the song. I think she (Lana) wrote in ‘acción’ instead of ‘action’ to make the song a little more interesting and/or flow better. :)

Thanks for reading!

Obviously a break-up song.
Just a lot more beautifully written (and sung) than what you usually see. It doesn't feel cliche or fake. As though he's actually going through this pain of losing her.
