I feel like this song could be about any kind of relationship (love, family, friend.) but one of them has an addiction, and they are hurting the other person with it. "Are you hurting the one you love? And was it something you could not stop." I think it ties with the religious them too, with Gluttony (having too much of something) being one of the seven deadly sins, and how she repeats that things aren't enough, or you can't get enough because with an addiction you cannot. |

| I actually have a very similar relationship with a friend. She's a liar. Like a pathological liar, she lies about EVERYTHING. And I don't believe her (not all the time) but I always want to. I hope that what she says is the truth, and I don't say anything about it, because I love her, and I keep thinking "She'll grow out of it, she'll stop one day..." but she never does. I don't think about a lesbian relationship. Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of something much more dark and morbid. Many sex offenders say that they hurt their victims because they had it coming, because they were so pretty. It's like they are punishing them. That's what this sounds like. Like a man came across a really pretty girl and he blamed her for being so attractive so he cut out her eye. And now she sleeps with one eye open, not just because she has only one, but because she's scared he'll come back. It's really morbid I don't how I come up with this stuff. But here are the lines that make me think this: "Well, her pretty little face stopped me in my tracks But now she sleeps with one eye open That's the price she paid" "I took a knife and cut out her eye I took it home and watched it wither and die Well, she's lucky that I didn't slip her a smile That's why she sleeps with one eye open That's the price she paid" "I said, hey, girl with one eye Get your filthy fingers out of my pie I said, hey, girl with one eye I'll cut your little heart out cause you made me cry" This makes me think maybe she turned him down, after he asked her out, I know I left out the first two lines, but I always thought for some reason like those were their first words... Like how they met. I know it's strange but that's what it reminds me of. Also: "I slipped my hand under her skirt I said don't worry, it's not gonna hurt Oh, my reputation's kinda clouded with dirt That's why you sleep with one eye open That's the price you paid" This makes me think of sexual assault, and the "my reputations kinda clouded with dirt." makes me think it's not the first time something like this has happened. |

I completely understand this. Literally and figuratively. I love the feeling of falling, for real, but it's the landing that scares me to death. And with love. I'm so scared of being in love with someone it is painful. I get really close, I do, but when the moment comes to profess love I run away, because I'm afraid I'll be hurt. protectbodythetans I love that line too "Fell in your opinion when I fell in love with you" It's actually my favorite. |

| I absolutely love this album, scratch that, I LOVE THIS BAND. It is amazing. This song does seem obviously like a love song. But not the sickening sweet love we usually hear today in music, but primal or animalistic. The drumming sound is obviously the sound of her heart speeding up, sometimes when your near someone you really like you get nervous and excited, and you are actually afraid they will hear your heart beat. | |

I completely agree with kokostar, it reminds me of someone afraid of love, happiness hit her, and she ran from it. Sometimes people grow up thinking Love hurts a lot more than hate or indifference. My favorite line is "Leave all you love and your longing behind, you can't carry it with you if you want to survive." It is just beautiful. And it says it all. |
