AFI – God Called In Sick Today Lyrics 7 years ago
No comment. Lyrics so obscure are meant to just be experienced, not interpreted.

Commentary on societal superficiality, pressure to look perfect and how this can torture a person psychologically.

My impression is that this song is sung in the first person, telling of meeting a man who tells him to find a pot of gold (could be interpreted as a dream, or passion, purpose in life etc.). This mysterious man is named Curious as he travels in a caravan in search of adventure. Unfortunately the protagonist never finds this pot of gold, all the while wondering what became of Curious.

The National Front Disco is a sarcastic song. The song isn't an endorsement. Wrapping the Union Jack around himself could be just making fun of the National Front all the more

Morrissey – Speedway Lyrics 14 years ago
In a final addition, this song is classic Morrissey in that it's thesis, so to speak, isn't entirely clear, fuels curiosity, and ultimately keeps us guessing. One of the reasons why people love him, and are so addicted to him. Morrissey tells a lot through his lyrics, but not all.

Yeah, as I seriously doubt this interpretation of the song, in fairness to bdolls, they said that it is how it relates to them. People hear lyrics, take them out of their original contexts, and conform them to their own experiences. Perfectly human thing to do, but I don't think that this is what Morrissey was thinking at all when he wrote Speedway.

A truly beautiful, deeply confessional, heart-opening song.

Mopo976 I feel hit the meaning square on the head in his 2006 post. The time in which Morrissey wrote this song was immediately proceeding a period of nefarious rumors about him, most notably among others that we was an ultra-nationalist, xenophobe (see the song "National Front Disco), and the famous NME cover of him wrapped in a Union Jack, benign as that really is. There were other rumors about him at the time perhaps (the song uses the word 'rumors' as plural), but I do not know of these.

In interviews to date, he has forcefully denied the accusations and character assasinations made against him, such as being a racist, however this song adds some really interesting twists:

"All of the rumors keeping me grounded, I never said they were completely unfounded"
"And all those lies, written lies, twisted lies, well they weren't lies..."

One would immediately think this was an admission, or partial admission of guilt
towards the rumors.

"Guilt by implication, by association, I'll always be true to you, in my own sick way, I'll
always stay true to you."

He expresses his resignation to being judged and misunderstood. And when he says "In my own sick way, I'll always stay true to you." This could be interpreted in that despite the pain that it causes, he loves to push the envelope and have people lash out at him, as false as their accusations might be.
