At first I thought it was him singing about a girl "gone away", like just in general, and he misses her. But having read the lyrics now..and reading it's about how his wife died...It's really fuckin sad. You can feel the pain and love he has for her in this song. It just sounds like missing someone. I don't know, it's insane. The lyrics are as equally depressing as the instrumental tonality. "Maybe in another life I could find you there" ^That's one of the saddest lines I think I've ever read, anywhere. Guy just feels lost, you can tell. I wish I could write something so simple with so much meaning. I grew up listening to the Offspring, I didn't really remember this song until they started playing it on the radio recently. They really have talent.. |

This is probably my favorite song. I've had a couple friends try to legitimately kill themselves. My mom has tried to kill herself 3 times in the past 2 years. She probably talks about committing suicide at least once a month in a manic fit of depression - she has a huge mental breakdown. I listen to this song pretty much every time she does this, I always have to try to calm her down so she doesn't do it.. "The angry boy, a bit too insane" This line definitely describes me. I've only really considered doing it once or twice..then I think about how my whole life is ahead of me and I can do whatever I want with my future. Not gay btw, as some of you are saying it's about a gay dude. I can just relate to the suicidal theme. |

"New blood joins this earth And quickly he's subdued" This boy is born and he's oppressed by his parents. I doubt a child that young could even fathom the externalities of society. "Through constant pained disgrace The young boy learns their rules" He learns that he's not supposed to get out of line, or go against the grain. He's not supposed to go against the rules his parents lay down. "With time the child draws in This whipping boy done wrong" Similar as the above. He can never do anything right, he's subdued, talked down to, told he fucks everything up. This is just my thoughts on it. I feel like I can relate, I feel like as soon as I was born I can remember my dad calling me a "fucking idiot" among many other things. I get that sense from the song, it was never really about expecting more out of the boy, but more about a power struggle, it was almost anger and resentment towards the boy. Then the rest of the song goes to talk about how he has lived his life, reflecting back. |

Yeah, imo, the meaning of this song is, well, it's directed at his friend. It sounds to me like it's directed towards someone he cares about but is becoming annoyed with. he's telling whoever this is for to stop being so dramatic and take responsibility for what's happening. it sounds to me like he is saying this person is overreacting. now, this song has a sick sound but this guy sounds like a real condescending dick. i like how he downplays someone else's struggle because he feels that his has been more difficult. it's sort of a double standard in a way for this singer, like "well you're having a hard time and i think it's just a joke. stop being such a baby. but i on the other hand, i wrote the book on pain, i know everything, i have everything figured out, i've had a really hard life and you don't understand that, but i understand what you're going through". he's like that person that thinks they're better than you just because they're a few years older. he sounds like a fuckin twat. he killed this song with his chorus. |
