| I'm not a Christian, but I feel the same way about this song. Despite its references to Jesus, Pope, etc. (which you can replace with similar references from other religions), I don't see it as a religious song, but rather, a song about us struggling with our religious identities. The central theme is: what if God is not a immortal, supernatural entity (as you said), but rather just "one of us")? Will we ignore this mortal God ("a slob like one of us", "a stranger on the bus"), and seek our Gods in churches, temples, and mosques once a week? Our faiths tell us that God became "one of us" (Jesus, Muhammed, etc.) to serve us, and the saints that we know (Mother Teresa, etc.) devoted their lives to serving "one of us". Why can't we do the same, instead of fighting religious wars over whose God is better? | |

Thank you. This is the best interpretation of the song that I found. Even though this seems like a Christian song, it is equally applicable to other religions if we replace the references to Jesus and Pope with similar instances from other religions. The central message of the song is: What would you do if God was standing right next to you ("a slob like one of us? Just a stranger on the bus...") and you did not know? Would you just ignore him and go about your everyday life, as many of us would? Would you run back to your church/mosque/temple and seek him there, even though he was standing next to you? The greatest saints in every religion, like Mother Teresa, are those who found God in "one of us" and devoted their life to serving this "God" rather than the God in the churches, temples, etc. According to the Christian faith, Jesus became "one of us" to serve us. Can we do the same for "one of us"? |

| This song is not about witnessing a murder/drowning or child molestation - it's about lying and breaking of trust in a romantic relationship. Collins is saying that the time has finally come ("I can feel it coming in the air tonight") to confront a lover or wife who he caught cheating on him and who is still lying about it ("Well, I was there and I saw what you did / I saw it with my own two eyes / So you can wipe off the grin / I know where you've been / It's all been a pack of lies"). Collins is saying, presumably in a fit of rage, that he won't try to protect or save her even if she told him that she was drowning ("Well, if you told me you were drowning / I would not lend a hand"). Note that she is not actually drowning, but he thinks that she is lying about drowning, just as she lied before about being faithful, and that he doesn't trust her any longer. Very intense song, and the 2004 live video is just out of the world! | |

Not underrated anymore - this is now a staple song in Scorpions concerts, and very well received by the audience. The concert version is longer, more hard-edged, and closer to the Iron Maiden version, where Matthias Jabs does a long vocal solo, which is not there in the album version. But I love the bluesy guitar riffs in the album version - probably the only song where the Scorpions tried this. By the way, the song is about a night in the city (probably New York, based on the 42nd St reference) where he meets his girl. The zoo is a reference to the city streets ("On streets we call the zoo"), which are filled with "hungry eyes" (like hungry animals in the zoo). |

| Even if a few songs may appear similar, WT sounds nothing like Evanescence. Sharon del Adel (WT) sings at a much higher register (high C ?)and range (mezzo-soprano) than Amy Lee (Evanescence). Also, most of WT's lyrics are about nature and life, while Evanescence's is more about death. | |

I agree with Nico: Ice Queen is really a metaphor for a cold, harsh winter (didn't see any reference to blizzard or other calamities). Fortunately, the winter ends and spring arrives at some time, until the Ice Queen returns the next year. This is a sad song is about grieving for the loss of one's dreams (or loved ones), and how they make life meaningless and cold. "Standing by the paintings of your dreams But you have awoken And all the purples and the greens Have turned to black And the ruins of your soul Have died No more meaning I wonder when you have Become so cold." The video shows Charlotte in a wedding gown mourning the loss of her groom and possibly contemplating suicide by drowning. I wish there was something positive at the end. |

I agree with the previous comments that this song is about looking at the negative things in life in a positive light, and in doing so, we can create our own destiny ("Take off the glasses that have treated your world black and grey ... Count your blessings and prepare to change your point of view ... Create your own fate"). A very meaningful and inspirational song for people who have gone through some very difficult times. This young talented band will go a long way (and can even become the next Nightwish) if they continue to write songs like this. | |
