Bon Iver – Woods Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Ok, guys, bear with me. I’ve been listening to this over and over last night, and my crack-pot theory is that it’s a man mediating on a camping trip. After a while, his preternatural awareness of his surroundings shows up as everything around him singing with a little song he made up. Chorus 1 is just the man, singing alone. Maybe he made it up on the spot, to celebrate the peace? Chorus 2, the man is joined by the voice of a weak fire. (It warbles, like a weak fire, and high because it’s small.) Chorus 3, a small stream burbles along and joins in (there’s a bit more melisma in the third voice, which flows like water) Chorus 5, The forest itself beings to echo (multiple voices, loud and strong, perhaps all the trees?) Chorus 6 is the skies (They're echoy and distant, and they singing to their own time, and yet lend a beautiful background to everything) Chorus 7 Maybe the moon? (High and distant as well, but much closer and substantial than the voice before. I imagine it's nighttime. Could be the sun.) Chorus 8 A nearby mountain chiming in (deep and solid, reverberates around) Chorus 9 Wildlife. The dramatic voice made me thing of the calls of birds of prey, so maybe something like a hawk And all these elements just interact and mix together so the man really feels at one with his surroundings… Like I said, my crackpot theory. *shrugs* |
Now, Now – Dead Oaks Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is so much fun! Like a trip to the beach with all your friends, condensed into less that 2 minutes! |
Now, Now – But I Do Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Perfect December music. |
Freelance Whales – Red Star Lyrics | 11 years ago |
My absolute FAVORITE off Diluvia. Beautiful imagery. |
Annuals – Hot Night Hounds Lyrics | 12 years ago |
God, *why* isn't this band more popular?! This song always has me dancing around my room like a crazyperson. It's just magic. It's the sound of pure joy. |
Reptar – Isoprene Bath Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Freaking LOVE this song! It's a tropical beach party in audio form. |
The Horrors – Changing the Rain Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Everytime I hear this song I think Farris sounds like something sinister and evil trying to sound sweet. In a good way. |
The Horrors – You Said Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I love the atmosphere this song builds. It sounds like the beach, like remembering, like a gentle plea... I'm not making any sense. |
Ben Howard – Keep Your Head Up Lyrics | 12 years ago |
My heart just flutters whenever he says "eyes like wildflowers." |
Reptar – Context Clues Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Owls :) |
Deftones – Bloody Cape Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Have to agree, I absolutely love that part. It just sounds so intense, terrified, panicked...tons of emotion packed in less than a minute. |
Animal Collective – Infant Dressing Table Lyrics | 13 years ago |
My absolute favorite off that album. Starts out sounding gentle and sweet, but builds up to make a loud fuss. Just like babies :) |
Health – Die Slow Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Amazing song, but absolutely brutal live! I was fortunate enough to see them a while back. I, in an idiot-savant flash of brilliance, decided to be in the pit. A mere chorus into this song I found myself with a slight nosebleed, missing a shoe. One of the best shows I've ever been to. |
Sarah Jaffe – Luv Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It's a sarcastic little lullaby <3 |
Sarah Jaffe – Stay With Me Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is such a gorgeous, delicate song. You can feel the emotion in everything, from the way the guitar swells and ebbs behind her to the way she sings those last few words. That said, the live version is it's robust cousin. If the recorded version is an early morning tangled in bedsheets, soaking in the afterglow, then the live version is rolling around in a sunlit field laughing and playing like children. |
School of Seven Bells – Half Asleep Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Exactly. |
MGMT – Brian Eno Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I would like to second this opinion. |
Mimicking Birds – Home and Somewhere Else... Lyrics | 14 years ago |
But that's what this site is for, isn't it? |
Mimicking Birds – Home and Somewhere Else... Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is so precious. It spoke directly to my heart on the first listen. Whenever I listen to this I imagine wandering through forests and fields in summertime. Having said that, I have no idea what it means. But somehow, I think figuring it out would ruin the magic :) |
Joanna Newsom – Sadie Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Nah, we can do that too. :) |
MGMT – Pursuit of Happiness Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Does anyone know if that little sound at the beginning is one of the boys? It sounds like someone...mooing, for lack of a better term, and for the life of me I swear it's Andy. |
Bobby McFerrin – The Siamese Cat Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Actually, he doesn't use the full Disney version, and I think he tries to get rid of the Engrish. (If there is a version of him singing the entire things out there, please link to it!) But on the cd it goes: We are Siamese if you please We are Siamese if you don't please We are former residents of Siam There is no finer cat than I am Do you see that thing swimming round and round I think we could reach in and make it drown If we sneak in up upon it carefully There will be head for you, a tail for me Do you hear what I hear (It's a baby cry) Where there is a baby there is milk nearby If we look in baby buggy there will be Plenty of milk for you, plenty for me It's a wonderful interpretation. So relaxing. :) |
