Belle & Sebastian – Calculating Bimbo Lyrics 13 years ago
i'd say it's about his ex who is now with another man. she however still turns to him whenever she gets lonely or when there's a crisis ("I get the midnight phone call/I'm your captain for the long haul"). the fact that she remains in his life in this way prevents him from moving on ("If someone else is near me/You scuttle up the pavement"). "It's no one that I care for, I pause for an effect" describes the girls he's trying to date, but they don't make very much of an impression on him compared to the calculating bimbo who selfishly won't let him move on. haha. good song!

The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics 14 years ago
Gotta add something..

Could "It started out with a kiss/How did it end up like this/It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss" refer to that his gf has kissed someone before, and that this is the reason for him now being so paranoid?

Jupp, two interpretations which are both kinda likely. The one I had was kind of similar to your second, however i've never thought of it as being his paraoia. Haven't really ackowledged the "and it's all in my head"-part, I think. I've always just seen it as him being cheated on, without being able to leave the relationship cause he loves her too much. But so yeah, nice one, think you pinned it down quite well.

Ironic that this is such a great partysong, isn't it?

Lisa Hannigan – Sea Song Lyrics 14 years ago
@ TobyBartholomew : I can't say I'm sure, but I don't think so. I see it as being sung from 2 diff p.o.v's. First it's her singing about this man, who's like the wishful thinking in her life, but who will wash over her like a wave if she holds tight. Then in the second verse it's how that man sees her like the sea (perhaps as overwhelming as the sea), but still like that she sails with him. Third verse it's her speaking again, saying that, just as in the first verse, even if he has the right to be like the sea, she'll just sink down if she stays with him.

My guess is that the song's about her and damien rice. In an interview (can't find it atm) he spoke about their relationship and their break-up, and it was very apparent that he during those years took up a lot of everyone's space, having a rather egocentric mind - and perhaps being rather overwhelming. And then, apparently he broke up with her just before a show while having a complete breakdown ("didn't we all break down (...) didn't we all break out") after which they never spoke again.
