Modest Mouse – God Is an Indian and You're an Asshole Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[Boswell:8712] I originally thought it was this interpretation as well. The Native Americans/Indians didn't believe in property, they lived in Rousseau's state of nature, more or less. And they were happy this way. I think American culture today is the opposite of that, with everything being about personal property and everyone benefiting off of a system that inherently unequal. So to me it's saying, you're not an Indian, you're not gonna save the world, your just another asshole in the rat race buying things you don't need, so do what you're gonna do but "fuck off" with your holier-than-thou self. It's probably works on multiple levels. |

Swans – Nathalie Neal Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I searched for Nathalie Neal and found a director with shorts on vimeo. I watched the videos Magic Kingdom, Dream Queen, and Arctic Vacation (all are under two minutes) with the sound off and the video meshed well with the music. The videos seem like they're about love and beauty which fits with the album/song. I was just wondering if it's the same Nathalie Neal |
Modest Mouse – Whenever You See Fit (with 764-HERO) Lyrics | 10 years ago |
*"every thought I ever meant was evident". |
Modest Mouse – Whenever You See Fit (with 764-HERO) Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think sometimes he says "ever thought I ever meant was evident". That would fit into the whole lying, telling the truth theme in the song, but maybe I'm just hearing things |
The Uncluded – The Aquarium Lyrics | 11 years ago |
also I think the line nobody's a big fish in a small tank is saying that when people are one on one, it doesn't matter how important either one is because they are both human and 99% equal [when they meet]. |
The Uncluded – The Aquarium Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Me at my post do I look inside jealously at you wanting out Not knowing propellers slice deli meat, meeting of the mind's eye Through the glass, giving thanks for the sea nobody's a big fish in a small tank Do you slow motion float through a confined free rise Or run the risk of getting chopped up to bits outside? Is there anywhere that you can find a little balance between Small cell prisoner and motor boat madness? I think this bit's about either bucking societal expectations and risking alienation or conforming to them and letting your life be definied by societies rules but experiencing the benefits that come with going with the flow. And like that Atmosphere song, people just are "Trying to Find a Balance" between runaway-mad fighting and submissive acceptance of life and societies imposition. I hope thats okay interpretation (hope it makes sense). |
Of Monsters And Men – Love Love Love Lyrics | 11 years ago |
except don't think she is considering giving into it |
The Mountain Goats – Masher Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think it's about like his life falling apart, at the same time a relationship isn't working out for him, and losing control of the language is him unable to understand how or why. as a lyricist I'm sure it must be very hard for him to not be able to say what he is feeling. |
Ugly Casanova – Here's To Now Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think he is in the moment and he's just talking, and he's so content with himself. I also like the line about how once you grow up you maybe become a little more reasonable and you can control your instincts? As the people get aged and their bellies get sagged well their instincts all fall out. Old people are calmer than the rest of us. |
Modest Mouse – She Ionizes and Atomizes Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Heres what I thought the song said: I think when she ionizes, she's changing herself to fit to what the guy wants. When atoms ionize they are not in their original state anymore, so following this metaphor she adds and substracts stuff to get the guy attracted to her. The guy in the song knows this, and instead of falling in love deeply and fully, he itemizes the good and bad things and makes a more cold rational approach at love. He also tries too hard to pull at the love instead of letting it come. That's why the couple gets flourescent empty light instead of the real stuff |
Aesop Rock – Pigs Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm trying to figure out if the last line is just like a final irreverant line or if it's actually metaphorical. If it's "finer words for the finer birds takin notes" then it should have some deeper meaning right? But i can't get anything out of it besides maybe the girl has some of the trappings of wealth(pigtails). Ehh it's probably nothing. Great song though. Aesop's a monster. |
Morning Teleportation – Just A Figment Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Modest Mouse – Never Ending Math Equation Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Isaacs an atheist |
The Gaslight Anthem – Red in the Morning Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The title is from the old ditty "red at night, sailors delight, red at morning sailors take warning" I think it's really interesting how Red At Night is a much more peaceful song with just acoustic guitar, because the phrase red at night refers to peaceful sailing. Red at morning refers to a storm, and with the electric guitar and much faster pace this song definitly is more stormy than it's counterpart. |
Modest Mouse – Bukowski Lyrics | 14 years ago |
ruin William Saroyan said, "I ruined my life by marrying the same woman twice." there will always be something to ruin our lives, William, it all depends upon what or which finds us first, we are always ripe and ready to be taken. ruined lives are normal both for the wise and others. it is only when that life ruined becomes ours we realize then that the suicides, the drunkards, the mad, the jailed, the dopers and etc. etc. are just as common a part of existence as the gladiola, the rainbow the hurricane and nothing left on the kitchen shelf. Ruin by Bukoski. |
The Mountain Goats – Maybe Sprout Wings Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song seems to be about a man who has lost someone, but he doesn't yet accept it, or does and is trying to fight it. He thinks back, and is saddened by the fact that the people are fading from his memorie, so he says there names three times, trying to summon them back, like the legend. He trys to think good thoughts, but is still overcome by sadness. Also when he says "canaries in the mine" it sorta sounds like hes trying to say that what happened to this person/persons showed him not to take the same path that he/they took. The way he/they went was a warning to john. |
