Danzig – How The Gods Kill Lyrics 2 years ago
If you feel alive
In a darkened room
Do you know the name
Of your solitude?

(If distancing yourself from the light of religions like Christianity makes you feel like you know more and makes it feel like it’s a false religion the further you look into it, are you ready to admit that its all a lie? Do you know exactly what you are headed for? It’s a rejection of man made religions as a whole)

If you ain't got the answer
If you don't know the truth
If you want the power
Then let it flow through

(If you dont know the answer, its because the truth scares you.You wont be ready to move on until you accept the frightening truth that everything they told you was a lie. Knowledge is power)

Oh, would you let it go?
They cannot end this mourning
Of my life
Show me how the gods kill

(All those false gods and empty promises cannot end the suffering in your life. You have to kill/sacrifice your old way of thinking to move on. Its such a difficult thing to do that in a sense, its going to take divine intervention from this newfound power source within yourself. If you knew the ultimate truth was within reach, would you let the old ways go?)

If you want the answer
If you want the truth
Look inside your empty soul
There you'll find the noose

(Only within yourself can you find the power to kill your old ways.)

@[dookiedude8:33052] The room he is in at the beginning of the song is an empty church or some other house of worship, be ii buddhist, catholic, Hindu, etc. He goes to various houses of worship hoping to find god someday "Room by room , patiently"

@[aquastars:33051] It is not a person, it is God he is waiting to meet. He desires to live in the house of God.

@[tdlg0:33050] I love this song and have often wondered about the meaning. I knew it was about religion and death, but after reading your suggestion on the book of the dead, its right on the money.

Buddhism says that after death(if you follow the religions instructions) you can go to a realm outside of death and rebirth. And this place can be anything you want “anywhere we want to go”

He is absolutely praying to other pagan gods and deities to take him somewhere in the afterlife , but ironically, the place he wants to go when he dies is to the Christian Heaven.

Once in his life, he had faith in Christianity “Take me to heaven , to a place I recall, I was there so long ago. The wine was blood” Only in the Christian religion is the wine blood, representing the blood of Jesus.

But at some point, something happened and he lost his faith in the Christian religion. Though he no longer believes, he wants it to be real. And he sees this as possible in the Buddhist religion.

The Bravery – Believe Lyrics 5 years ago
The song is about a couple of different things, fear and stagnation.

“The faces all around don’t smile, they just crack”……(People are like zombies , working a job that they clearly hate or stuck in a relationship they cant get out of)

“Waiting for our ship to come but our ships not coming back”……(People are hanging on to false hope and past opportunities instead of taking an active approach to getting out of a a bad situation)

“We sit and grow roots into the floor, what are we waiting for?”(People content to just sit at the job or life they hate and wither away into nothingness)

“Somethings always coming you can hear it in the ground, but never comes.” (People are gripped by irrational fear that keeps them from moving forward. They fear something that’s never going to happen to them)

“I am hiding from the beast, but the beast was always here”….(We are and have always been the biggest detriment to our own success. WE are the beast)

I LOVE this song, its so inspiring to me.

@[skizzy:17698] Nice observation. Yea, I think a lot of his songs are about ongoing battles with his own self rather than God or other people in his life. Been 8 years since you typed that. I hope you are well.

@[GrayLander:17697] I agree with some of this, but I dont think he is asking god, Jesus or any other deity here. He is trying to help his own self.

I think this song is simply about himself and his two halves. His dark depressed side and his brighter more optimistic self.

"In many ways I AM the burden that divides us from the light
In many ways YOUR the the halo that keeps my spirit alive"
(He is looking in a mirror and realizing he controls his own damnation or his own salvation)

"If I survive I fly from here,
But as the chosen pessimist,I carve my name in stone"

You can choose to survive and take flight, or you can be the CHOSEN pessimist and carve your own tombstone.

This song is about battling depression. Terrific song.

Chickygirl...your post makes so much sense that....it sounds as if you are the person who wrote the lyrics.

I have no doubt that your meaning is exactly what the songwriter intended. Thank you.

( And this describes my current situation as well )
