Rosie Thomas – Gradually Lyrics 13 years ago
Wonderful wonderful - simple yet strong lyrics.

In general it could be about being in a abusive relationship with someone telling you you're wrong, bad, small etc...Or it's your abusive parents that've told you 'should be sorry'...

For me personally I'd say it's about the relationship with abusive parents that have ruined the child I was. In the end I will stand above them and learn more and grow stronger. This song fits this feeling very well and I think it's beautiful.

>Also, I'm pretty sure the actual lyrics are "What if I told you I could love you?" >instead of "lose you."

I agree, she sings 'love' and not lose.

My rose to desire

I think it should be 'My arrows to desire'

My Brightest Diamond – Something of an End Lyrics 14 years ago
I absolutely love the melody, atmosphere and words chosen in this amazingly well-crafted song.

If someone has been suffering from a mental illness for the biggest part of his/her life and commits suicide I can understand how it would be seen as beautiful and terrible at the same time. Someone is taking the power back, after years of trying to feel better, maybe years of therapy, years of falling and getting up, dissapointing yourself, taking power to stop their own suffering, trying to safe themselves from more hurt and lift up to the sky where there's no more pain. For any human being to find back their own streingh is beautiful. Though when it comes out in the shape of suicide it's horrible as well.

I love how the lyrics also show that the people around keep telling the person they're beautiful and worthy and so on.... And it's such a shame that with people with mental illness (myself included) we seem unable to store this information in our heads long enough and remember it at times when we're at our lowest. You can't get it through our heads, it doesn't stick and that is a shame. It makes me sad that so many of us hear the positive feedback/compliments of the people that love us but a minute later we already don't believe we are worthy of love or just beautiful human beings.

We are all beautiful... maybe we should tell eachother this even more often.
It might save someone one day.

Moloko – Pretty Bridges Lyrics 14 years ago
Everything that's been, things attached to you, still clinging onto you, bad memories, people you'd rather forget, things you've done - Always trying to shed the weight. Not keep carrying it around with you endlessly. It's a hard thing to let the past be. For me that's what this song is about.

Moloko – Familiar Feeling Lyrics 14 years ago
For me the chords, melody and words chosen in this song give me the sense that is has a sad core. As if the relationship has just ended. She is still convinced that they are meant to be together, they've spend so much time together and are connected and he is breaking it up. And her conclusion is that nothing can come close to that what they had and shared. This is how I interpreted it anyway.

Beautiful, beautiful.

Kate Bush – Walk Straight Down the Middle Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the best part of the lyrics for me is:
"We thought it was all over
But it wasnt.......it hadn't started yet"

It's strange how the mind can respond in stressful and difficult times. Sometimes you find yourself with a power unknown to yourself, coming from your gut a will to survive. And other times you find yourself nailed to the ground, in shock, unable to move or to act. For me that's what this song is about.

Cocoon – Cliffhanger Lyrics 14 years ago
This one is beautiful and I understand the feeling behind the song but I find it really hard to put that feeling into words. Maybe it's just dissapointment and letting go of things, people and event that are hurtful.

Paul McCartney – Jenny Wren Lyrics 14 years ago
I found this info about the song on Wikipedia:

Jenny Wren was written in Los Angeles, and is about a character of the same name from Charles Dickens' novel Our Mutual Friend. It also refers to an English bird known as the wren, which is reported to be McCartney's favourite. McCartney wrote the tune in the same sort of finger picking style found in "Blackbird", "Mother Nature's Son" (The Beatles) and "Calico Skies" (Flaming Pie).

Suzanne Vega – Luka Lyrics 14 years ago
I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was 10 y/o and really liking the sound of it. I recorded it on tape and listened to it over and over. Being from The Netherlands I could understand only a couple of words of the English lyrics but it didn't really hit home at that age. I was being abused myself at that time, everything swept under the carpet, nobody knew. Now looking back it makes me quite sad at times, me as a 10 y/o connecting to the song then unconciously.

Sublime songwriting from Suzanne.

Kate Bush – Them Heavy People Lyrics 14 years ago
I guess everybody interprets it the way it fits into their own mind and it is funny to read what everyone thinks.

For me it seemed like she was singing about being in therapy, getting help from 'heavy people' therapist, psychologists, a lot of heavy talking to work on your mind. Rolling the ball to you because it's always up to you yourself to do the hard work in therapy. That's what I think and feel listening to this beautiful song.

I also think it is "I will choose NOT to raise up my voice"

Can never be sure, but I feel this could be about child abuse, or being in a relationship where you can't be yourself.
