U2 – With or Without You Lyrics 14 years ago
I think he can't live "with her" because of another relational situation, but he's stuck in a lose-lose situation, since he can't "live without her" either. A hell, a prison, a trap, torn by desire, raped by the fire.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 14 years ago
doesn't matter if he knew or not what the teen spirit was, that's just how it works. Creative inspiration, whatever gives us words and ideas, in other words, to the point where your own creation instructs even you and time is nothing if not spiral, or whatever. Although, an-anti-marketing (of deoderant) message would be all-Kurt.

U2 – Pride (In the Name of Love) Lyrics 14 years ago
I have no idea what this song is about. The pride, I assumed was MLK's, but then it sounds like the person who killed him, so it makes no sense to me.

Beyond, 'what more in the NamE of love?' it seems to say little. Unless MLK became prideful... i don't know, like I said. Mystery.

Nirvana – Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Lead Belly cover) Lyrics 14 years ago
Interesting how the first title on the MTV Unplugged album is "About a Girl" and the last one is titled: "My Girl" and somewhere in the middle he's 'married/buried'. Not that he was likely the easiest person to love..

U2 – All I Want Is You Lyrics 14 years ago
excellent response.

I would only add that in wanting "you", the lover wants simply 'to be', to exist, in the state of love with the other, not in a state of commitment, not in falsity or in pretense, but to truly be with the other. A song that is similar is "Come as you Are" by Nirvana where the singer begs the other to be oneself, friend or foe, to let go of ego and all that prevents us, gets in the way of true communion.

What brings meaning to the song, however interestingly, is not the composer, but the presentation of it, Bono's performance, Bono's ability to convey those sentiments makes the song so compelling, I believe, as well as the music, as you say.

David Bowie – Memory of a Free Festival Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it sounds so good because he really felt whatever he's trying to say. I mean that he felt, deep in his bones, was the experience he's expressing in the song and that is why the music resonates, he was expressing his truth, in other words, and one's truth always resonates, comes through, even though we can't understand many times. We can feel it, what they felt, in a way, in the way it infiltrates our emotional wiring, or whatever. If it is some universal truth an artist has expressed, and we can only feel the message, as we grow and hear the song/work in new ways, we can eventually learn of the truth they were expressing, I believe. And besides learn many other things maybe the artist, even, had no idea he/she was saying. fun stuff!
