Lorde – Royals Lyrics 10 years ago
Clearly she's commenting on how the music industry / pop culture is all about materialistic stuff.

Most rappers / pop starts sing/rap about all the things she mentions: crystals, jet planes, islands, tigers on gold leashes and gold teeth (etc). Which she doesn't care much for...because in her dreams she's made it (symbolism for drivin' Cadillacs in our dreams) but she still knows she will never be part of that group of people (Royals).

She doesn't have that blood (wasn't born into fame or has family in the industry that has made it big) or belongs old money (postal codes - old money tend to live around the same areas i.e. Beverly hills).

So when she says she wants to be Queen Bee or Ruler, she is fantasizing about pop culture not being about what the Royals love (their materialistic lifestyles), she craves a different kind of buzz (doesn't care much about money but just having a "good life without a care") and will rule with that in mind.

Shakira – Se Quiere, Se Mata Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree, Dana doesn't die - at least not literally.

The word 'quiere,' in Spanish, can mean two words in English: 'like' and 'want.' This translation from "It is liked, it is killed," into "it is wanted, it is killed," makes a difference.
The general translation is as follows:
Braulio is a big eyed, dark haired man that wears only gray and doesn't sleep naked. (Big eyes => innocence / gray => neutrality, which will come into play later, 'cause Braulio isn't mentioned during the abortion).
Dana is a good girl (according to her parents) who never gets home past 10PM.
They both love each other like any couple but fell for carnal wants/needs.
Dana becomes pregnant shortly after and fears the consequences. (Your neighbor is happily relaxing in every day life while Dana is 2 meters -6feet- under). Which doesn't translate as her actually dying, instead think of it in this situation:

Doing something SO BAD that you think your parents might kill you. (Which makes sense because her parents think she's the most innocent person ever). So before her parents find out about the pregnancy, she decides to have an abortion because what you don't want, you kill. So to her, the choice is kill the life she's supposed to bring into life (in the "rotten city") or be killed, figuratively, by her parents.

In the end, Dana's innocence is what dies, not her.

Adele – Best for Last Lyrics 13 years ago
I think people have a general idea of the song, but I think this is more of a self revelation than anything.

The first two verses (and the title) show that to her, he is the one, the one you spend the rest of your life with and all she's wanting is for him to reciprocate her feelings.
The most important part of the first two verses are the last two lines:
"But you'd save the best for last
Like I'm the one for you"
Which means she knows that he doesn't really like her the way she likes him, so she's trying to fool herself into thinking that he's saving the best (her) for last. (Hence the name of the song).

While she's trying to fool herself about his intentions, she tries to tell herself that she doesn't feel anything for him, that he's merely a "temporary fix," until she finds the best to make it last. She's trying to cope with his womanizing ways by making him a mere object that she can get over with an ease.

Through each verse, she changes back and forth, arguing with herself about wanting for him to say that he loves her and saying that he was just another guy. She's torn between wanting her ideal man to save her for last (the best for last) and plainly convincing herself that he doesn't mean anything to her, that he was another nudge to her last man.

Mika – One Foot Boy Lyrics 14 years ago
I think One Foot Boy refers to his conscience, the fact that it weights 11 stones(154 pounds) means that lately, his conscience has beeing weighing him down.

The first verse shows that he doesn't need the boy's opinion on his affairs. He knows he's done something wrong, but he just doesn't want to hear it.

The next verses just show that he's kind of losing his mind and regretting pushing him out of "his shoulder" (like the angel and devil in your shoulder). (The boy = angel). And he's crazy and he's going to "shoot somebody" because he has lost his conscience. He's going insane, but at the same time he regrets throwing him away. WHich is why he says "Get lost" but he also says "rescue me".
The whole "I'm happy on my own" is him trying to convince himself that he doesn't need that boy.

Mika – Toy Boy Lyrics 14 years ago
I completely agree with EisGirl
except that I don't think its about any young man. I know that his second album is an extension of his first album. The Boy Who Knew Too Much is an album where mika talks about his adolescent years. (The first album was about his childhood).

And like EisGirl said...he was with a boy and later got with a girl..thou I don't know who Mika has been with, he has admitted that he doesnt limit himself to one sex.

In a September 2009 interview in Gay & Night, Mika commented on his sexuality: "I've never ever labeled myself. But having said that; I've never limited my life, I've never limited who I sleep with... Call me whatever you want. Call me bisexual, if you need a term for me... You should be as free as you want."

which further proves my point.
