I don't think that any of you have it right. 'Losing my religion' is a phrase that means losing your temper, or control over a situation. The situation in question is the narrator's secret crush. He is 'in the corner', when he doesn't want his love to be noticed, but occasionally he comes 'in the spotlight, losing (his) religion', meaning he loses control and lets his feelings show to this person who does not love him (or, maybe, is just oblivious). He also says too much (he thinks he's being obvious), but the message doesn't click with this person ('haven't said enough'). At some point, he really let's the person on to his feelings ('the hint of the century'), and is afraid that everything, his fantasies, will be ruined, but I think that even at the end of the song, the object of the narrator's affections is still in the dark about the whole thing.
