some other things i thought of : hide and seek : another person trying to hide from everything, pretending it didnt happen. the sweeping insensitivity of this still life : how every one else is insensitive to what happened. to them, it happened and they've forgotten. but to her, its every single day living without the person that died, its a still life without them. ranson notes keep falling out of your mouth mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs - i think this is saying that other people try to comfort her, but its robotic efforts. they dont really know how she feels, they are just going through the motions, saying words that dont mean anything (newspaper word cut outs) saying words they've seen or read that they think will comfort her. speak no feeling no i dont believe you - they say they understand what she's going through, but they don't. they cant possibly feel the way she does. she doesnt believe them when they say they do. |

Ive listened to this so many times, it is an unbelievably amazing song. i like a lot of the other interpretations, but another meaning of the song could be death or suicide. the dust has only just begun to form - things are just finally starting to get back to normal but… crop circles in the carpet - similar to circles left by furniture, the memories of the person will always be there...another way of saying they were there, but aren't anymore. sinking feeling - when a friend of mine died, every time she crossed my mind, i felt this sinking feeling. its just describing how she felt when she found out about the death. spin me round again and rub my eyes - as if waking up from a bad dream this can't be happening - she cant believe its reality, that it is really happening when busy streets a mess with people - people going on with their lives, while everything is falling apart for her would stop to hold their heads heavy - they stop to mourn the loss hide and seek - hiding from their feelings? Hiding from something trains and sewing machines - there are so many theories on this line, im not sure what I think it means. all those years, they were here first - if it is about a suicide, she might be saying ‘how can you forget about all of those years we had?’ oily marks appear on walls where pleasure moments hung before the takeover - pictures had hung on the walls, but someone has taken them down because they didn’t want to be reminded of what had happened. the sweeping insensitivity of this still life - this still life, this life without them. Mmmm whatcha say, Mmm that you only meant well? well of course you did Mmmm whatcha say, Mmmm that it's all for the best? of course it is Mmmm whatcha say? Mmmm that it's just what we need you decided this whatcha say? Mmmm what did she say? There are different things that this could mean… One of them could be that someone else involved didn’t want to be reminded of the death, or the person that died, so they don’t talk about it, or maybe they moved, or they got rid of everything that would remind them of it and they pretend it never happened. ‘you only meant well’ ‘its all for the best’ ‘its just what we need’ Or, she could be talking about a person who committed suicide. ‘I only meant well’ ‘its all for the best’…that one im not so sure on. ransom notes keep falling out your mouth - excuses? mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs speak no feeling no I don't believe you you don't care a bit, - ‘speak no feeling’ the other person could not speak about what has happened, and doesn’t want to share their feelings. She could be saying ‘I don’t believe you, you don’t care’ |

i signed up just for this too :) i love how you interpreted this... thats what i like about music is that it can mean one thing to the artist and then every single person that listens to it, it can mean something completely different to them, but it can still make sense. |
