Northlane – Solar Lyrics | 7 years ago |
This song seems to be about our destruction of the Earth, who is this "stormy, doubted and over-relied on" mother and host of ours. Confident in our ability to find a new planet to live on at some point in the near future ("soon we'll say it's time to fly"), humanity is continuing to bleed the Earth dry (think over-exploitation of resources, extinction of many species), multiply (population growth) and in the end scorch our host, Mother Earth, as they would probably say. I think every line fits into that metaphor quite easily. "Take a good long look at that horizon" might a) be either a warning to reconsider our conviction of what the future might bring or b) urge us to capture what we can still see so we don't forget how beautiful our home planet once was, after everything has gone down the drain... After all, this is one of my favourites from the album. And although it seems somewhat simple lyrically, I think they integrated the lyrics well into the music and created a powerful message. Cheers! |
COG – Resonate Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I would say the song is about shaping public opinion, changing the, say, radio frequency until their message is finally 'resonating' more and more in the populace. To achieve this they have to be 'stand-by soldiers who run by night', get 'caught in (the police's or security's) headlights', always swaying back and forth in their mind between wanting to give in to the state's seemingly overwhelming oppressive power, and their urge to resist, to create real freedom, and thus 'not losing it'. |
Kat Frankie – People Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This is a most wonderful song. Everyone who adores it should have seen and heard it live though, it's by far better than the recorded version, as it transports the feelings more intensely and sounds better at the high notes, I think. |

Oh yes, you're right of course :) |
Jackson C. Frank – My Name Is Carnival Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Does anyone have a clue concerning the meaning? The only thing that comes into my mind here is that Carnival could mean, that he's kind of always in disguise to fool the people about his sad state of mind. You could maybe see it here for example: "The painted laughing smile And the turning of the style Do not envy" I don't know if it's correct, but there seems to be nothing that speaks against it, despite all the things I don't understand like: "And a shadow lie and waits Outside your iron gates With one wish granted" But still it's a wonderful mysterious song that I really feel very deeply somehow. |
Ewert and The Two Dragons – Good Man Down Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is my personal favorite of the album with a great rhythm throughout the whole song. I think it is a, as obvious, a story about a girl that always has to be running in life and can't calm and settle down with the guy, who is really doing his best, but somehow doesn't really see her deep problem, so that he could manage to fix it. "She cried in a night He brought her flowers in the daytime" No one really understands the other one. But in the end as it all breaks apart he is the one who is brokenhearted and down while she is not ready to become conscious of her fault ("Go ahead and walk alone and regret it some-else-where"). She keeps on and he is struggling though he didn't really do something wrong. One interesting aspect here is the change into the the ego-perspective in the chorus calling her "You" and especially the last line. The poet comes to realize that he just wrote down his own story which gives all this a very personal and even more emotional touch. |
Emptyself – Liberated Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"If it takes every last breath you have as you shout in the streets, yeah", is missing, I think. This a wonderfully deep song about the ways to rule countries that we experience right now. Lies that lead to disaster that we may not see but that still exist. But since were not concerned directly we don't wake up to let some change impact the system. |
Jackson C. Frank – Dialogue Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Maybe this is too general, but I think it's about retreating oneself to be alone despite the coincident feeling of having to find someone that gives the life back its sense. Maybe he left his love and is now mourning about this grave he so built himself. |
José González – How Low Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's about doing things without seeing the external effects. He refers to large companies and stupid countries. His words :) He tells it in an video of it and I think it makes sense. |
Type O Negative – She Burned Me Down Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I thought of the same as vashts80, but what does "every time I see her start a fire I get higher" mean? |
The Mayan Factor – Warflower Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Is it the drug called "Peridone"? |
The Mayan Factor – Warflower Lyrics | 13 years ago |
What is Peridon? |
Karnivool – Simple Boy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Are they absolutely right? Some lines sound different to my ears? For example I hear "On the course facing nothingness" |
