Regina Spektor – Dog and Pony Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree that it's about the end of relationships. When there has been so much blame and you can't just go back to how it was before you "went up in flames", "There is no clean slate. Its about trying to move on even though you still love someone. The bit where she says "You sitting on the rooftop\Me begging here on my knees" reminds me of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah... but not sure why... |

Two things... That is my favourite drink too! Didn't know other people like it as much. And also, totally agree and have had very similar experiences so many times, maybe now I'll learn my lesson (about how fleeting preservation is :) ) |

Regina Spektor – 8th Floor Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this is a lovely song about what it's like when you emigrate and the things that don't properly translate... Like the way that winter isn't the same thing in New York as it is in Moscow. "wasn't really rain it was just january snow in denial and something must have gotten lost in the translation, russian to english and winter wasn't wintery today" I think putting the verses in Russian was very deliberate, because it gives us (who don't speak russian) a sense of not understanding the way she didn't understand things when she first moved, and those who do understand are reminded of russia and speaking in russian.... I love how all the little details show the differences... Ps. Russian sounds so good when regina sings it! |
Regina Spektor – Woolen Gloves Lyrics | 14 years ago |
To me (I'm probably the only one!), this song tells the story of someone who fell in love far from home in some exotic place. She feels warm literally because its a hot place and also because its nice to be with that person... but its like woolen gloves it feels nice and warm but doesn't feel real "you can't touch things properly". She imagines what it would be like if she were to stay forever ("have babies" etc..) but she knows it can't last and that she has to go back to New York. She wants the person to understand and forgive her (now)... I think "falling in and out of my woolen gloves" is really beautiful, but I'm not sure what it means... I think it's about falling in and out of love but also, feelings of safety and security which come and go. (Like in her song 'dulce et decorum est' when "things that used to comfort me don't comfort me anymore0 Just my little ideas! :) |
