Dido – Hem Of His Garment Lyrics 14 years ago
This song speaks to the need for healing in a relationship. Dido uses the biblical story of the woman with the "issue of blood" who has been lonely for many years when she comes to Jesus and says that if she could but touch the hem of his garment she would be free and healed from that which keeps her an outcast. She comes without pride and is past her anger over the curse of her desease, she believes and is healed. The writer wants to let go of her pride because now it is beginning to rob her, she realizes that it is a double edged sword. She also talks about letting love rule and designates anger as a tool for a clown or fool. I like this song...it's hopeful.

Dido – Isobel Lyrics 14 years ago
I think that the part about her (Isobel) not knowing whether "he" would be stronger than his father
speaks of an abusive relationship. Maybe he attacked her and she killed him and ran. Maybe she will have to pay for her crime. Possibly Isobel's relationship was with a boy they grew up with who they all knew and they knew his father was an abusive alcoholic and they all thought "he" would be stronger. Then again maybe they planned for Isobel to come see Dido and something happened...a fight and Dido's afraid that Isobel is hurt or hurt herself...but leaving was right....sorry for all the running on, I ran out of breath typing.

Dido – All You Want Lyrics 14 years ago
That last stanza is:
I hope you found that
all you want is right there in that room
all you need is sitting there with you

This is the progression of him leaving, her missing him, him hooking up with someone else while she is patiently waiting for him to "find himself", him using his key to get back in, her telling him to get out because he could have stayed or come home and found all he wanted and needed with her but he chose to try to find it somewhere else and then he wanted to be able to use her too. It's very sad and dehumanizing to love someone and they constantly want something more than you can possibly give. The best thing to do with a person like this is to tell them to "take their sin" and kick rocks.

Dido – Don't Leave Home Lyrics 14 years ago
I love what you said: A new lover -- maternalistic, possessive, exclusive. Security, with just a hint of menace coming through.

Any unhealthy addiction could apply here including the addiction that some women feel when drawn in and trapped by an abusive man....or vice versa.

You said it. That is also how this song fits for me.

Dido – Life For Rent Lyrics 14 years ago
This song has really hit home for me since I turned 30.
It has really made me take a hard look at the way I invest my time, energy and heart.
This reminds me of that Rush song "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice" I'm so caught on my merry-go-round all the time that I have prevented myself from making alot of decisions...because what I do is out of "necessity" instead "want" or at least that is what I tell myself when I work 70 hours a week while someone else raises my children. It's very gutwrenching to think about it.

Chris Cornell – Arms Around Your Love Lyrics 14 years ago
No fair comparing guys and gals on the plane of depth of emotion. You must be right about this one. It's not totally a "happy ending" for anyone because it isn't a sweet revenge at all in fact in my own case it feels very bitter.

Chris Cornell – Preaching The End of The World Lyrics 14 years ago
I like what r bloodworth said. What kind of person would you want to share the end of the world with? What kind of people are we really when we are stripped of all the business of being people and there is really no concievable future to gamble on, no obligation, no achievement to chase? What would any of us want to do if all there was left was to watch the end of the world play out into oblivion. We have a spirit that connects us with the unknown beyond that and a soul that connects us with another human being.

Chris Cornell – Can't Change Me Lyrics 14 years ago
Wow 2 and half years later and I have to say you hit the nail on the head Pandorus. I'm sure that that "she can't change me" does not speak to feelings of inferiority coming from a man about a woman. She is definitely knocking on the outside wall of his emotional comfort zone box. That is the plight of of proud men that will not allow their point of view to be broadened by a dynamic and sympathetic woman. Bummer for them.

Audioslave – Cochise Lyrics 14 years ago
I suppose the Indian Chief story fits, it does also have an "off the reservation" feel to it in relation to substance abuse and recovery as well.
