Siouxsie and the Banshees – Desert Kisses Lyrics 14 years ago
This and Lunar Camel are an example of Siouxsie and Severen writing individual songs about the exact same topic, in this case, The High Priestess of the Tarot, or at least using the symbolism thereof. From the Book of Thoth (http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/crowley/libro_thoth04.htm#II._THE_HIGH_PRIESTESS_):

This card is referred to the letter Gimel, which means a Camel. (The symbolism of the Camel is explained later.)

The card refers to the Moon. The Moon (being the general feminine symbol, the symbol of the second order corresponding to the Sun as the Yoni does to the Lingam) is universal, and goes from the highest to the lowest. It is a symbol which will recur frequently in these hieroglyphs. But in the earlier Trumps the concern is with Nature above the Abyss; the High Priestess is the first card which connects the Supernal Triad with the Hexad; and her path, as shown in the diagram, makes a direct connection between the Father in his highest aspect, and the Son in his most perfect manifestation. This path is in exact balance in the middle pillar. There is here, therefore, the purest and most exalted conception of the Moon. (At the other end of the scale is Atu xviii, q.v.)

...

The following chapter of the Book of Lies (falsely so-called), may assist the student to understand this doctrine by dint of meditation:

DUST DEVILS
In the Wind of the mind arises the turbulence called I.
It breaks; down shower the barren thoughts.
All life is choked.
This desert is the Abyss wherein is the Universe.
The Stars are but thistles in that waste.
Yet this desert is but one spot accurséd in a world of bliss. Now and again Travellers cross the desert; they come from the Great Sea, and to the Great Sea they go.
And as they go they spill water; one day they will irrigate the desert, till it flower.
See! Five footprints of a Camel! V.V.V.V.V.
(For the classical description of the Abyss, the student should consult Liber 418, The Vision and the Voice, especially the Tenth Aethyr The Equinox, Vol. I, No.5, Supplement.)

The Cure – Fire in Cairo Lyrics 14 years ago
Aleister Crowley wrote Liber Legis in Cairo in 1904. Chapter 1:

14. Above, the gemmed azure is
The naked splendour of Nuit;
She bends in ecstasy to kiss
The secret ardours of Hadit.
The winged globe, the starry blue,
Are mine, O Ankh-af-na-khonsu!

22. Now, therefore, I am known to ye by my name Nuit, and to him by a secret name which I will give him when at last he knoweth me. Since I am Infinite Space, and the Infinite Stars thereof, do ye also thus. Bind nothing! Let there be no difference made among you between any one thing & any other thing; for thereby there cometh hurt.

49. Abrogate are all rituals, all ordeals, all words and signs. Ra-Hoor-Khuit hath taken his seat in the East at the Equinox of the Gods; and let Asar be with Isa, who also are one. But they are not of me. Let Asar be the adorant, Isa the sufferer; Hoor in his secret name and splendour is the Lord initiating.

60. My number is 11, as all their numbers who are of us. The Five Pointed Star, with a Circle in the Middle, & the circle is Red. My colour is black to the blind, but the blue & gold are seen of the seeing. Also I have asecret glory for them that love me. (F.I.R.E.I.N.C.A.I.R.O. is 11 letters.)

61. But to love me is better than all things: if under the night stars in the desert thou presently burnest mine incense before me, invoking me with a pure heart, and the Serpent flame therein, thou shalt come a little to lie in my bosom. For one kiss wilt thou then be willing to give all; but whoso gives one particle of dust shall lose all in that hour. Ye shall gather goods and store of women and spices; ye shall wear rich jewels; ye shall exceed the nations of the earth in spendour & pride; but always in the love of me, and so shall ye come to my joy. I charge you earnestly to come before me in a single robe, and covered with a rich headdress. I love you! I yearn to you! Pale or purple, veiled or voluptuous, I who am all pleasure and purple, and drunkenness of the innermost sense, desire you. Put on the wings, and arouse the coiled splendour within you: come unto me!

64. I am the blue-lidded daughter of Sunset; I am the naked brilliance of the voluptuous night-sky.

Shriekback – Gunning For The Buddha Lyrics 14 years ago
I have a Kabbalistic interpretation, but it's a bit of a stretch. On the tree of life, the path from Yesod to Tiphareth is 14, which relates to Sagitarius, the archer. Tiphareth, as per Book 777, relates to Buddha. So can this be a joke of gaining enlightenment by shooting the Buddha?

Shriekback – Voiled Karletus Lyrics 14 years ago
That's an amazing job of deciphering the lyrics. Voiled means partially obscured, for example, a model covered in a transparent cloth. Karletus? I have no idea.

Killing Joke – Chessboards Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a comment on the chapter "Onion Peelings" from 333, The Book of Lies, which is printed on the lyrics sheet on the album. It is about layers of understanding, enlightenment. Sometimes the truth makes you cry, sometimes laugh. Ultimately, there is no true meaning.

Killing Joke – The Death And Resurrection Show Lyrics 14 years ago
The first stanza is about ancient man, the primitive. The primitive has enlightenment, illumination. That is, he understands the truth. The Mother of Liberty, fire, illumination are all gnostic images of enlightenment. Along comes organized religion, with it's lies. There is a reference to the Frazer argument that the death of Christ is just a retelling of the Osiris myth. The person who has been tainted by the lies of organized religion, finally gains enlightenment, and transcends his ego, with the knowledge that he will be reborn after his body dies.

Killing Joke – Love Like Blood Lyrics 14 years ago
Night Time is a reference to the first chapter of Liber Legis. "Had! The manifestation of Nuit." This song is about the coming of the new Aeon. Red is the blood of the new Aeon, and gray is the old Aeon. Toyah uses the same allusion in Blue Meanings. "The young, the old, The red, the grey, Wars cannot alter What’s here to stay."
