I think that song is about all the kids out there, that claim to be different by being the same as everyone else. Wearing a revolution shirt doesn't mean that you are a revolutionary if all you do is wear a t-shirt. So many people claim to be part of something different but really being different has become mainstream. You see so many people these days talking and talking and talking, and all they accomplish is to talk. Congradulations you angst filled adolesent. You hate the world and guess what no one cares. Raise your voice just a little louder so more than your mirror can hear you. Like i said this song i believe is more of a jab at every kid out there that claims to be a "rebel", when all they do is bitch. I know several people myself cried against the autrocities that they felt were unfair, but they didn't do anything about it. I think this song is just trying to tell all of those kids that there is more to be revolutionary than wearing a t-shirt and putting everyone else down. Pick up your can of spray paint, get a sign and a stick, and do something quit talking about it just do something if you think that life is unfair. |

| First thank you for joining the armed forces, I have a younger brother that is a marine and is getting ready to go to boot camp in the fall. I also have other family that have been in different branches of the military and good friends that are currently in the military. And i agree with everything you said, the song is about taking pride in your country and in times of war terrible things happen some are avoidable while others are things that no one can expect or see coming. This song is great cause it shows how a person can believe in being a soldier and fighting for their country, but still have problems with what they have to do while they are at war. Again thank you for protecting our country and everything that you do for us. The men and women in the armed forces are not recongnized enough for what they have to do every single day. May you come home safetly. | |

I think that this song represents the American people after the attacks on the twin towers. I believe that it talks about how everyone wanted vengence for what had happened to us. (I can still remember the words and what they meant as we etched them with our fingers in years of wet cement.) Then people started to realize what there requests had gotten them. And some people even claimed that they had opposed the war from the very beggining. (We ran like vampires from a thousand burning suns.) After things really started to get out of hand during the war people went back to their jobs and tried to ignore or forget what was going on. But people still couldn't forget that what was happening started because they wanted revenge. (I looked up and saw you I know that you saw me we froze but for a moment in apathy.) An audience of one is simply the people that were still openly supporting the war. I don't think that Rise Against was supporting the war, just stating the obvious of how everyone wanted the war they just don't like the way that it turned out. Also I am not pro war I am strictly against it, but I do have a younger brother that is a marine. This is just my idea of what the lyrics might mean. |
