Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics 14 years ago
Though not intended, this song can be interpreted with a Christian perspective. It addresses one who has been fighting for the secular ways of life but has been beaten up by it in time. It encourages that person to "give up the fight" and "lay down their arms" and surrender their life (to God). One 21 gun salute is sufficient enough which could represent God's one and only son (Jesus) who carried the sins of the world by dying on the cross.

This song challenges the worth of a servicemembers fighting. Thats what it's all about. It suggests only having one "21 Gun" salute and both laying down arms. This would have made a great hippie peace activist song if it were in the 60's. I am a 3X combat veteran of Iraq and must admit this song touches me despite my political views. Theres a sense of underlying realism unfolded. See the post from May 20.

I have to agree with nokejibijab regarding this post. As a 3X combat vet of Iraq I must admit this song touches me despite my political views. Theres a sense of realism with the lyrics, an underlying truth untold. The meaning of the song is exactly what this 5-20-09 post defines it as.
