Dream Theater – These Walls Lyrics 14 years ago
Shredman, it's been a while since i posted my comment. I've listed the song a few more times and every time i find out more stuff. You expressed your opinion in a brilliant way, yet i should disagree with a few points. I agree with you when you said "the power lies within yourself", however what if he can't break this 'wall' all by himslef? What if he needs help, but he don't know how to ask for it?

I think i get everything but the ending. I mean, Nicholas is Victoria, so why would the hypnotherapist go after him?

I agree with something Sietsev said. Here goes my intepretation:

"This is so hard for me / To find the words to say / My thoughts are standing still
Captive inside of me / All the emotions start to hide / And nothing's getting through"

Basically he wants to talk about something, but he can't speak his mind; he can't talk about his feelings because they disappear.

"Watch me / Fading / I'm losing / All my instincts / Falling into darkness"
He's personality is fading, he's having dark thoughts...

"Tear down these walls for me(...)I'm holding back"
These walls he talks about is whatever keeps him from talking to his friend, but yet the friend knows he, maybe desperately, need to say something.

"Each time I try to speak(...)And it changes everything"
Maybe this voice it's not on his mind. Perhaps someone is, somehow, oppressing him...

"Watch me(...)Fading"
Again, lacking of conversation can be disastrous.

I almost forgot, when he says
"Every time you choose to turn away / Is it worth the price you pay / Is there someone who will wait for you"
I think he's talking to himself. Is it worth turning away rather then talking to this person? Do you think this person will wait for you? I have a feeling this friend is a girl...
