Matt, I totally understand where you are coming from and it's just not my taste either so I dont listen to it. But seriously guys... why are you bashing him for not liking one song, he voiced his opinion about it, it's not like he isn't a fan of Brand New anymore just cuz he doesnt like one song. calm down, for 'true' brand new fans you guys sure get hateful towards one another.
also, anycolouryoumike, he doesn't have to 'get' indie to like brand new. first off you cant tell someone they just dont get something because they dont like it, and secondly you dont have to like indie to like brand new. brand new is so far away from and better than any 'indie' band. |

This song is about the whole TBS situation... it's actually quite obvious once you understand it.
fire spreading - the rumors about BN and TBS
the second stanza, about sleeping in the same place and the broke down cars - saying how TBS and BN are in the same situation now, they are fading bands and essentially broke down cars waiting for repairs
there you go, there it goes - he is saying "there, fine, i said it when are the same."
you stole, the cradles, first word - about the line "subtle as a brick in the small..." he is saying that TBS stole it from BN's debut (cradle), took the 'first words' from them.
if im a liar, you're a theif - an obvious counter to "if im just bad news your a liar" or the song liar, liar by TBS.
let's end this tonight - this being BN's last album, he is saying the argument is over and he is done with it, thus explaining the absence of rebuttle to TBS in the past couple albums. |

lyrically this song stands alone. each line is genius. as for the music, the change in tone is brilliant, from the depressing beginning to the hammering guitars and drums at the end. the song is by far my favorite, next to (i know cliche) 'Jesus'
