Type O Negative – Wolf Moon Lyrics 15 years ago
For the longest time, I too thought this song was just about werewolves, and I knew the lyrics inside and out, lol. I guess its just a testament to how this song is both very subtle...yet really obvious if you think about it the right way. Extremely well crafted lyrics.

I think this is a beautifully sensual song. I've since come to just see the werewolf elements as just being metaphorical for the empowerment a man recieves from sexually gratifying his lover. In this song, the woman is not asking for his help...he's willingly offering himself.

There seems to be a few elements to indicate that the man is performing oral sex on the woman not only because he is turned on by it, but also because she is having pains and sex/orgasm can provide relief for that. Note "we'll alleviate the pain...let me kiss the curse away".

However, if you understand Peter Steele and his song writing style, my guess is that he probably decided to write this song because he thought it would be funny to write such a sensual song about menstration cunnilingus. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% sure Pete has done this with a woman, but he also sometimes likes to write songs just because its a humorous topic, even if presented seriously.

Type O Negative – In Praise Of Bacchus Lyrics 15 years ago
The opening lines of this song remind me of an intoxicated man staring at a glass of wine whispering "she hates me" to it. I always think he's either calling the wine Bacchus, or perhaps whispering to the pagan god himself. I love the long whisper of "she hates me" after the intro.

The verses to me seem to be just a slice of a memory he has about his lost lover, punctuated with how he can't forget how she said they'd burn together, as though they'd either thrive or go down in flames together, or survive together... not sure entirely. But whatever it means, she obviously didn't adhere to her promise and its eating him alive.

I'm not sure what the deep, powerful chant is towards the end of the song, but its one of my favorite parts on the whole album.

Type O Negative – Die With Me Lyrics 15 years ago
If Type O Negative is one of your favorite bands (and they are in my top 3), then you likely relate to the complex emotion of Steele's lyrics that often convey love, beauty, hatred, self-loathing, obsession and humor all within the same song.

I think this song is the common emotion of "wishing the moment would never end", except Steele expresses this in the idea of "girl, I want to die with you"...the moment would never end because he'd die in her arms. Of course, that isn't what happens here, but Steele has away of making the idea of death romantic and sensual.

In interpret the line "lay your head down for the last time" to relate to both a last night together and Steele's secret wish that they might die there together rather than be seperated.

Also, there is no denying the AWESOME vocal performance during this line. Everytime Peter sings "lay" I get shivers. What an amazing vocal instrument that man has!

Type O Negative – Can't Lose You Lyrics 15 years ago
Bloody Kisses is definately not a concept album, but I think this song was placed at the end of the album for a reason. As Type O fans know, Peter Steele loves to weave tales of self-loathing, contrasting emotions of worship and hatred of lovers, and desperately perverse emotional addiction, all which may or may not be tongue in cheek. Peter Steele says a lot of crazy things in this album..and by the end, its time to clarify where he really stands.

I think this song is kind of a final summary of the ride we take in Bloody Kisses, that with all said...ultimately...he just "can't lose you".

It makes me think of a guy apologizing after having a huge outburst at their lover. After calming down, coming to your senses...just apologizing over and over saying "I can't lose you". Alone, the song doesn't mean as much, but when you look at the whole album...well that's what I take from it.

Seven Mary Three – Cumbersome Lyrics 15 years ago
I have totally been in the place that this song describes. I was with a girl for six years before we broke up, and the last year we were together, I'd lost my job, had to move in with her, was really depressed, gained some weight...all while she was going to medical school. Her life was going up, mine was going down. She was annoyed with me all the time, I felt like a loser....felt cumbersome.

I think this song is just about the awareness that you've become kind of a burden on someone, or just the world in general, and there isn't really anything you can do to change that at the moment.

"Resurrect those bridges with an ancient glance/But my old stone face can't seem to break her down" - I think this line relates to that feeling where you wish you could just turn back the clock, even for a day, and have the relationship that you used to have. Be able to affect her the way you used to when you look at her...but it doesn't work. You're just a tired face to her and nothing you do will work.

I've been there, done that, glad I moved on finally!

Great song, great identification of an emotion.

Nirvana – Dumb Lyrics 15 years ago
I think there is something ironic in the way he sings the line "the day is done/i'm having fun". He sings it so monotone that it conveys a sense of boredom in what he's doing.

The second verse of this song is just genius, "my heart is broke, but i have some glue, help me inhale and mend it with you"... I do think in one way it is about finding someone to just become enwrapped with as a means of getting over whatever is bumming you out, but after that fun is over...you have a hangover..the pain is still there.

As far as "I think I'm dumb", I think its about low self-esteem. Feeling boring, ordinary, and dumb. It also seems like he's struggling with the idea of "ignorance is bliss". He feels happy, but is it because he's too stupid to know that he shouldn't be? That's kind of the central question of the song, and I think a lot of us can relate to that feeling at one time or another.

I know a lot of people who have asked me "Should I be upset about what happened, because I feel ok about it".. just about any situation where they should be "heart broken" or upset. I think this song is in part about that feeling.

Bush – Alien Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm doing this song at an up and coming open mike show.

This is one of those songs that gives me an almost indescribable feeling of joy and love, though I couldn't quite put a finger on what it is. To me, this song speaks of a love relationship that is so natural that there is no need for verbal communication to convey it to one another. If you've ever experienced the joy of just holding your lover in a quiet room, without a word...you really do feel like no one else in the world exists.

I think the use of the word "alien" in this song conveys the idea of your love being alien to the rest of the world, because no one else other than the two of you could experience it. Blissful isolation as she(he) comes to take you away to that place. I always think of two lovers in a place of solitude so intense with one another that its almost like floating through space on your own ship or something, because the rest of the world is that far removed.

"The beautiful rain" part to me just adds to the sense of enjoying something quiet together in a special way that only the two could appreciate the same way.

I think the line "second blonde child/felt like velvet", first of all describes the way when you are quiet with someone, you are open to your sense of touch, and smell and you enjoy the way their skin feels, or the scent of their hair. I am not sure what the second blonde child means, perhaps he's just thinking about who his lover is, a second born child...but she feels like velvet.

Gorgeous song.
