actually, "the best/biggest city of South America" in the song is São Paulo. it's where they (os mutantes) live.

as they say: "we live in the best city..."

Os Mutantes – Hey Boy Lyrics 15 years ago
It's quite difficult to translate the lyric, but it's about a playboy, that gets his pocket money from his father and has a nice car, nice clothes, nice hair cut, nice girl. He goes to parties, he's popular, he's "living for living", but he never did anything for all that he got.

The music ends with a car crash. All the money, all his popularity, it's all over.

Os Mutantes – Bat Macumba Lyrics 15 years ago
macumba is a religion, but it do has something related to black magic. it came from Africa and became popular in Brazil.

"bat" is a reference to batman. (no, really.)

the tropicalia is about mixing brasilian culture (e.g. the macumba) with american and european culture (e.g. the batman) and a lot of irony.

hard to explain, but you can see it all in the song.

ps.: it has nothing to do with a bat-like god.

Os Mutantes – Panis et Circenses Lyrics 15 years ago
it's all about searching for freedom and dreams.

"the people in the dinning room" are conservative people, focused on family values. they don't care about living their dreams, just care about reproducing.
